BlackRat345
Hi everyone, Me and family looking to move over spring/summer 2014 and due to job will be living SOR. Have done loads of research as to where we want to/can afford to live and now looking to get some information re schools from those in the know. We are looking to live either Warnbro or Baldivis. As far as I can tell we have choice of either Waikiki or Koorana Primary in Warnbro for the youngster and then Warnbro Community HS or Warnbro SHS for the eldest boy. Alternatively in Baldivis there is Settlers or Makybe Primary and apparently a very recently built High School. A third option we might consider is Secret Harbour so would be interested in views on primary and High schools in that area. Had a look at the ratings and seen some differing comments about them all so first hand experiences would be great. Many thanks
Lou8670
I don't have any first hand experience of these schools but we did do a reccie a few weeks back and stayed in Warnbro. We checked out some of the private schools in the area - Tranby, Living Waters and Frederick Irwin in Mandurah all of which seemed excellent. I met an expat mum who's kids had started at Secret harbour primary and she was very pleased with the school but I would think you need to live in the catchment area. Unfortunately I haven't heard so many good things about Warnbro state primaries or high school and my SIL who's a police officer and lives in Waikiki send her son to Living Waters. Baldivis as an area looked lovely and usually the local schools reflect that. There's a few members on here who live in that area and may be able to comment. BlackRat345
Thanks for the info. Did consider going private but seems like most are church schools and as a pretty definite agnostic I'm not sure we'd qualify. Baldivis is our first choice but open to suggestions. Chardy
I hear you on the whole church thing and want our kids to decide for themselves what/who to believe in, not have it forced on them. We are building in Baldivis now so our kids will be starting at Makybe in Feb after a happy first year at Meadow Springs, we have heard good things and looking round it looks to be at least as good as MS. The new high school seems to have a great start too with some top staff at the helm and the social inclusion and sports programs look excellent. Secret Harbour schools are good but have a strict catchment area so bear that in mind. Also Baldivis is growing all the time so catchment areas may change when new schools are built (2 more primaries still planned) so try to be as close as you can to the existing ones. BlackRat345
I know a lot of people have given good reports for BALDIVIS and we are virtually set on living there. Initially going to rent and get the kids settled and then will look to buy/build. How long are you looking at from deciding on land and build package to actually moving in? Do you pay something up front or not until the house is complete?
Chardy
I know a lot of people have given good reports for BALDIVIS and we are virtually set on living there. Initially going to rent and get the kids settled and then will look to buy/build. How long are you looking at from deciding on land and build package to actually moving in? Do you pay something up front or not until the house is complete? The whole build process takes about 12 months from singing for the land to moving in, 6 to 7months actual build time. If you go for a land/build package you will reduce your choice of lots to choose from so best to find the land separate IMHO. You will normally pay a couple of thousand deposit of the land and the same when you sign up with the builder. I can really recommend the sales guy at the display for our builder in Baldivis, PM me if you want more info. You start paying your mortgage as soon as you settle on the land then it grows through the build as each stage completes.
