As I am struggling with my ielts after my 10th trails, my agent is recommending 489 visa in WA regions as my position still in the list till now. We are a small family with 1 son (4years old). I need to know if anyone here has the same type of visa to answer my questions if possible.

1- In terms of employment, I need to know if there is any restrictions for this visa, I mean, are employers encouraged to offer jobs for people holding 489 visas?

2- I searched several websites such as Seek, my career, indeed etc. I could not find plenty of jobs for HR Administrators or Personal Assistants as this is my field of experience.

3- Are all jobs shown in advertisements or are there other resources of finding a job in the regions of WA.

4- What regions are better than others for families with kids? I know Mandurah and Bunburry.. Any recommendations ??

5- What regions offer more work opportunities for IT specialists and administration? Any good websites?

6- If I applied for 489 visa, and I still try to get my target score in IELTS to complete the 60 points, Can I submit a Letter of Intention and apply for the PR after that? I got this information from an experienced agent? Is it true?

7- How much does it cost of private medical for a small family per month?

8- Finally, as we are Mouslims, is there any access to Halal food in the regions?

Thanks alot

I will try to answer some of your questions.

1. No, employers are not encouraged to employ people with a 489. Why would they. Yes, the restriction is you can not work in Perth.

2. It is now coming into the Christmas period and employers often stop recruiting from now till February. But, I would do careful research on your particular career. Maybe do a search on here for them. There is a lot of info for HR people on pomsinoz in the career section.

3. Don't know. Some industries have industry specific sites.

4. Both are good. Mandurah is closer to Perth for visits.

5. None are going to be great. Most IT is in Perth and some find they have to do work outside of their area for a year.

6. Not sure. Maybe speak to a agent on this.

7. You don't have to have private if you are british passport holders. If you do, then you can get it from about $200 a month.

8. Yes, halal is available.

If you applied for the 489 and then passed your IELTS you could not switch visa applications at that stage. You would need to apply for a PR visa separately. With the 489 state sponsored visa, you would need to live and work in a regional area for 2 years and work for 12 months of that two years.

Do you have relatives in Oz who could sponsor you? A family sponsored 489 means you can live and work in the Petro Metro area.

We were originally granted a 489 family sponsored visa. We were not ready to move to Oz so decided to make a second application for a 189 PR visa after that, which was granted in 8 days as the paperwork has all been done previously for the 489.

I am applying for jobs at the moment and what I am finding is that a lot of them are asking if I am a Permanent Resident. If you can, I would persist with the IELTS so that it gives you more options.

Personally, if I had a SS 489, I would head to Bunbury. I suspect that a lot of SS 489 holders head to Mandurah as it is closer to the city, but there do seem a lot of people chasing for the same jobs and/or houses at the moment in that area.

Good Luck.
