Zena
Hi All, our visas were granted this morning. So happy that I had to share! Flying to Perth on Christmas Day. Anyone else just moved or planning to arrive in the new year? Also, any advice for new arrivals would be great. Zena :smile2:

tayloal
We've just got our visa too. Can i ask if any of you guys have got jobs lined up or are you just heading over and finding work when you get there? Hi Rendleroo, I have been lucky enough to find a job and start w/c 13th January, not much time for me to have a look round after I arrive unfortunately . Have you got work yourself? Rendleroo
Wow you lucky thing! We are desperately applying for work but I see my job has just come off the 'list' and there doesn't seem to be anything in my line of work. We are looking further afield than perth, see what the future holds hey?! We've got our house on the market and hope to head over as soon as that goes through. There are so many questions and I'm not really sure which is the right way round of doing things :-/ What's the job? Anything exciting? tayloal
Be careful what you wish for....................things may just take off and before you know it it all hits you at once, ! When it starts moving you will know the right way to do things, I just made sure I was comfortable with everything I was doing and the order I was doing it in, if youre not then something isn't right - that's what I thought. What line of work are you in / looking for? My job is in the same industry as what i'm in over here, Pharmaceuticals, on the engineering & process improvements side of things. Rendleroo
Hi tayloal. You were right! The house has sold today and the buyer wants to be in by Christmas! Cash buyer too! It really is picking up pace now. I said I wanted to try and get the kids in school for new academic year but I didn't think it would seriously happen, but hey, it might yet?! I work in animal welfare but specialise in australian native species. I want to work with threatened species, the whole move is following my dreams really, but without dreams, what do we have?! It good to know which way round people are doing things, I'm really nervous about moving out without having a job. There's so many things to think about. Zena
Hi, slightly late reply, but no, we do not have jobs lined up. Contacted and applied to a few employers and agencies but most not interested until we are in Australia. Fingers crossed we get something! Sapper59
Congratulations to you all on getting your Visas! It seems as though there are a gang of you coming over Christmas and early into the New Year - you will love it here!! There is loads of helpful advice on here regarding what to do when you arrive - bank accounts, medicare, driving license etc that is well worth a read. Although we have only been here 2 months and got all of our stuff sorted, including WA driving licenses, police checks etc, we have been told that things slow down over Christmas, so you may have to be prepared to be a little patient. Patience is a good quality to have when you embark on these administrative process, by the way! It is already getting nice and warm here, so I agree with everyones advice regarding shorts etc - hats with brims, sunnies and loads of high factor suncream are a must. We were here in February this year to validate our visa and it was 40+ most days - it took a while for us whiteys from Blighty to adjust! Anyway, congratulations again and I hope that you are all finding PerthPoms useful - we have certainly found it excellent in planning for our move and now that we are here enjoying life in Wonderful WA. Regards, S.
tayloal
Rendlroo I'm glad it's all moving along for you, excellent. Has the sale moved on as quick as you hoped? Zena, I also found no Aussie employer would entertain me without being in the country, I did touch very lucky with the job I got having plenty of recent relevant experience. With regards to my own move, I moved out of my house last Friday and had all of my furniture taken ready for shipping. I used John Mason removals here in Liverpool and I haven't been able to fault them at all, they have been brilliant and very professional. I finished work yesterday after 9 years and wasn't as emotional as I thought I might be, and I'm now ready to start a new chapter in my life. Ive opened my Australian bank account and am in the process of transferring funds, I'm also car hunting via the Internet to get an idea of prices etc. January 2nd will be here before I know it:biggrin:
