2014 arrivals

Recommended Posts

Following an interesting point on another thread about the number of arrivals next year I thought a 2014 meet up thread might be useful?

Who arrives first?

Where are you all planning to settle?

Are there some key dates when planned meets can be fixed, say quarterly if you're spread throughout the year?

Where's going to be a good, central location for everyone? - Freo Esplanade park? King's Park? Whiteman Park?

Is there anything those of us are here can do to help?

I have to say, I think the contributions through 2013 have been fantastic, it's been lovely to be part of everyone's journey and I'm so hoping it works out for you all. I hope the year of '14 posse can maintain the friendships and build their community when they arrive.

Great idea Porty!!

I don't think we're the first, I'm fairly sure there are others arriving as early as the 1st Jan.

However, we will be arriving on the 7th Jan and staying initially out in Muchea with OH's family. We'll be moving to Ellenbrook though by the end of Jan so that the fur babies coming out of confinement can move straight to the new house.

Dates and places are very flexible at the moment as we don't really have a clue what we're going to be doing. I have everything planned to the last T right up until we leave (and the first few days of medicare, TFNs etc) but after that it's the great big unknown!

Look forward to seeing everyone!!

What a great idea. We will be out end of Jan (just waiting for husbands work to agree a date) & looking around mindarie long term but work are sorting out a short term furnished until our things arrive & no idea where that will be.

so far we have no friends or social life planned so any dates are good for us

Porty, you are so right there we have had a very special time on PP this year and I for one will say we appear to have made lots of unknown friends along

the way.

Your idea for a meet up is spot on and I agree it needs to be somewhere big for all of us and somewhere for the children to be occupied while we all catch up

and meet each other. Whiteman park seems ideal.

When we do arrive it will be north in Jindalee but if we are still visiting it will be Mindarie. We hope to be June/july if all goes to plan. But we may be visiting before then so hope we can still come.

I don't know when we will arrive but the longer it takes to sell our house the more likely it will be after the end of June.

We're initially heading to Waikiki, Rockingham; staying with SIL and will probably look to settle around there or suburbs between Rockingham and Mandurah. :biglaugh:

I would love to be involved in a big meet up of all my fellow Perth Pommers! I couldn't have gone through the visa application process without this site and the lovely people on here. There has definitely been a wonderful positive and helpful bunch on here throughout 2013. So thank you!!! :notworthy:

It's early days for the thread and I know there are more of us out there.

At the moment there seems to be a leaning to January and June, so perhaps we could look to do a couple of meets or, as Porty said, quarterly?

Porty (and any others) are there any good local events that might be worth considering for possible venues?

A good location if it's for people with children is the family area of Kings Park, there's a café, BBQ's and a play area. Having somewhere central is good for everyone usually.

I agree with ali, King's Park is wonderful, a very 'special' meeting space. If you're a long way out of the city it might be a bit of a trek but if you meet up on your doorstep it may not feel like an event, just another day out.

The Synergy Parkland area by the Zamia Cafe is nice with picnic areas, the lake, BBQ's and a playground for kids.

Alternatively there's a picnic spot at the top end of the park, by the Pioneer Women's memorial which has the stream, the water jet over the lake but no BBQ's or playground, though don't worry, children will not be bored there. The bonus of being at the top of the park is that it's just a short walk up to the war memorial and the magical view over the city. For your fist meet up I think it would be an amazing place, especially if you are out of the city and may not get to see it very often.

Synergy is usually busy with early birds claiming the best spots in the shade and a lot of people arrive for breakfast and stay for the day. For a social meet up, especially when there are a few of you I'd say forget the BBQ. Does anyone really want to be cooking when you could be sat around with a picnic, food and good company? We BBQ in the park if it's just us, if we're meeting friends we just picnic.

Keep it simple; something to sit on, an esky full of ice, some food and your tipple of choice, a badge with your name on if there's to be a lot of you, hats, sunscreen is all you need, Perth will do the rest.

I can't believe how many of you arrive in the first few days of January, I think we should lobby for a 'Welcome Perth Pommers' banner at the airport.

loads of January arrivals! We are thinking end of May for our family to arrive but so wish it was sooner...its pretty cold here and dark by 4pm, its just depressing:sad:

We may be staying with a friend in Clarkson for the first few weeks but we have no idea where we will settle so just need to get there and explore to see where feels right for us. So looks like we will be up for a June meet all going well:biggrin:

You have a very similar plan to us.

Still waiting for anybody to bite on the house sale - but looking more and more likely that we will be heading out in early July (also heading for Waikiki)

Hello all, we land on Sunday 5th jan! I'm a hairdresser and my husband is a landscape gardener, we have a little boy who's 2 and would love to meet some other families/couples in the same boat as us! We visited in May '13 and fell in love with Perth, we can't wait to get back to those beautiful beaches (although, this time in swim suits not hoodies and jeans)! leaving our loved ones behind is hitting us now with only 4 and a half weeks to go, but we have a huge adventure ahead and that's sooo exciting! Hope to meet some of you soon ?✈️??☀️?
