Loulou
Hi So this will be out first Christmas in Perth and I am looking for ideas of what to do. We have 2 boys 9& 5 and normally xma eve we would cook the turkey visit some family then have turkey sandwiches and champers sat around the fire ( no champers for the kids ). We are quite close to Coogee beach so will probably visit there but just wondered what everyone else does or will do ? And also any ideas for nice things to eat ! We are having Christmas dinner around 7pm with my Aunty and her family but will wont to keep the kids busy until then. Thanks lou

Nic964
We've only been here for one Christmas so far, so here's out thoughts. Food - something light and easy. Forget the turkey with trimmings. We had a great cold dish, salad, meats etc, so easy to make, and pick at. If you are going to cook, seafood, steaks on the BBQ, so your outside, and not heating the house. We live near Rockingham, so spent the day under the trees at Rockingham Foreshaw, watching the world go by. Two cooler's one with food and one with drink. Loads of people with kids around, so a really great atmosphere, and so different to the UK. Make it what you want, but don't try and follow UK christmas, it was 40 deg.C last Christmas day, so cooking is definitly to be kept to a minimum. Chrismtas eve, nice walk on the beach again - what more can you want. Enjoy it. Nick / Lynn

I cook the turkey christmas eve, and we make turkey sarnies, have family round for a sherry or three, then Christmas day we have full roast turkey dinner mid afternoon, we love it! Then later in the day, we have a swim in the pool and enjoy the evening with family. I think as long as you are happy to do the full cooking in the heat (with aircon on) then go for it. I still decorate the house like I would in the UK although I dont have a Fireplace or mantelpiece for my swags!. I still buy Quality Street, it aint christmas without a Green Pyramid! We have christmas pudding. Never had a bad christmas yet, its what you make of it and Im sure whatever you do, be it beach or traditional, you will have fun with the family! Have a good one! pea
ali
Christmas Eve we're usually working unless it falls at a weekend. Xmas day - we set the table outside and have brunch - bruschetta or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, pancakes, fruit and bucks fizz. Hubby cooks Ham and Turkey and we have a 3 course dinner in the evening indoors. Boxing day we have friends round for leftovers and BBQ

odies
well Roses, Quality st, celebrations, heroes are all £5 a tin here but the tin is smaller than when I was a young girl . When across in oz it is a in laws and family day of a good uk meal turkey and all the trimmings, pool and buffet later on. Even though it is hot nothing beats a big table of family and friends knocking back the bucks fiz and enjoying the christmas meal and of course midnight mass on christmas eve. Give me a break!
I've not bought any chocs yet! Dieting and the temptation would be too much to bear. Just about managing to keep my mits off my sons advent calendar!
Guest guest9824
...Ive got Lindor balls in my cupboard and they are calling me:rolleyes:....I love a bit of Lindor!
SJT
You can't beat Lindor. I have brought the balls in the big ball for my son (as Lindor balls are his favourite choc ever, he has expensive tastes at the age of 12) and they are wrapped under the tree but I know they are there, hoping they will stay there until xmas day. verystormy
My christmas eve and the run up will be manic. I will be leaving site on the 21st to do the 12 hour drive to Dar es Salaam and jump on a flight the next day arriving home on the night of the 23rd. So will have christmas eve to run around. I have pre ordered the turkey from Boat Shed and we are going to treat ourselves to getting a fair bit of the christmas food from there. So will be leaving Mandurah to do the shopping at 6am on christmas eve as it opens at 7am. Then head back home, via the chocolate factory in Mandurah. Drop off my wife and shoot into town to get her last present and things and then home to wrap, put the tree up and stuff. Hopefully i will get an hour at the 19th hole of the golf club for an hour late afternoon!
