Ksaunders999
Hi every one please be patient as I'm new to this sort of thing. I was hoping some one out there may be able to give me some advice on the jobs in Perth. The biggest problem is that I am over 50 and would love the chance for me and my wife to be able to live and work in oz. We came over in 2009 and stayed in North of Perth and fell in love with it.I am a fully qualified Motor Mechanic and I'm able to work on almost all makes and models of cars. I am a Vauxhall(Holden) trained mechanic with over 35 years experience. I know my only chance is on a 457 Visa but am I wasting my time in even looking. If there is any one out there that can give me some advice it would be great fully appreciated , even better if any one knows of any one looking for a mechanic We'll thats it from me at the moment , I'll be waiting for a reply I hope. portlaunay
With regards to visa options your best bet is to talk to a registered migration agent. In terms of securing sponsorship, as you say, this is very difficult to do from afar unless you are highly specialised. I've no personal experience of your trade though so hopefully someone with better info will respond with more detail. Daveakaginge
You are right in one thing, a 457 is your only option, unless you can boast a balance of family out here, or earn in excess on $128,000 per year for a 189 visa. We are here on the back of the wife's 457 both in our 50's, getting here is the hardest part, staying is a work in progress. Good luck. nicolac34
What would be your options if you did get a 457 sponsored visa and wanted to stay? If you don't qualify for PR because of your age then you'd have to go home again at some point.... have you considered that? As for the motor mechanic industry, I think it's quite boyant really. My brother is a mechanic and doesn't have any shortage of job offers - he came on a WHV and was offered positions on 457's with several different garages and was sponsored for PR pretty much straight away. I do think it's the sort of thing that you have to be here for though, but you could try contacting some of the dealerships directly. I'd start with Holden and then branch out from there. Good Luck!
