189 documentation, particularly defacto

Hi folks

I am in the process of accepting an invite for 189 and my partner as de facto.

I have not used an agent and querying if I require one, especially with proof of defacto. I have done IELTS and skills asssessment , sent police check away and have arranged my medical on my own.

My partner and I have been together over 2 years. I have our lease, bank statements, receipts for holidays, copy of E-tickets, photographs but with no dates on them. Will these be adequate and if so, will they need to be certified or colour scans enough? I have had my qualifications, IELTS etc certified for my skills assessment.

Finally, is there a rough time to wait for a case officer to be assigned?

Many thanks

Kirsty

Hi Kirsty,

My husband and I are going through the visa application for 189 too. We are using an agent, and are pretty much in the same stage of the process as you - we have had the invite, had our medicals last week, sent off for police checks yesterday, hubbys skills assessment and IELTs done. We were allocated a Case office last Friday which was about 3 weeks after we lodged the visa application. They have asked for evidence of our relationship even though we have been married for 8 years. I am supplying mortgage details, holiday receipts, life insurance details, and 10 photos scanning from 1999 to the present day. Our photos dont have dates either but because we have been together so long you can see us ageing through the pics!! In the email from the case officer it says evidence of relationship only needed to be photocopies. Only our marriage cert, birth certs etc had to be certified.

If you have 12 months worth (that is the timings we were given) of proof you have lived together and share finances etc, I would have thought this would be good enough, but maybe others on here may be able to help too

Good Luck! Raychel

Hi Kirsty,

I've not long been through this process myself. We put 10 photos of us together in different locations onto a word document and stated where and when the photo was taken. We also sent copies of our phone bills, highlighting calls/texts to eachother as well as bank statements showing money transfers between us. We had a couple of invitations addressed to both of us, flight tickets, as well as car insurance cert showing both of us as drivers and our electoral register letter, again with both our names on.

In addition, our agent told us we should both write and statement and get 4 people to write statements too (2 from each side). My boyf's mum and sister, my mum and best friend all wrote statements for us, just saying how they met the partner, how we are together, how we fit in with the family etc. For our statements, we put when and where we met, when things started to go serious, how we support eachother financially, emotionally etc and where we see the relationship going.

We didn't get asked to provide any further information by the CO.

Thank you both very much for your help. It is hard to believe I have sat an exam, IELTS , the associated costs and it's the proof which is stressing me!

Thought Raychel a marriage certificate and mortgage/rent would be sufficient. Thanks for the idea of phone bill statements Claudette, it is a idea which i never thought of. Will the CO give me an idea of what is lacking? Just need to address the subject of statements. I have constructed one. Although i have meet my partners family, they live in Ireland and we both live away from my home town so we don't have much interaction with my friends and family.

Thank you both for your help. Have you any idea when you will leave?

I'm not sure if the CO will give you an idea as we used an agent. I guess when you've uploaded everything, they could come back and ask for more evidence.

We are planning on moving in June but it's all dependent on the OH's tax bill in April! May have to stay in the UK a bit longer to save if it's a big one!

Good luck with your application.
