Cumbria
Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone can please get back to me about this issue It is all fine in the online maps it says it will take approx 20mins to go from Murdoch to Beckenham In reality, during the peak hours after dropping kids at school, 8-8.30am how fast the traffic moves on Leach Highway? Many thanks Mike
Stevie G
Usually flipping slowly. Get them bikes or get them to take the bus, otherwise it will take a while. The leach is full of traffic lights also which will make it slower than other routes, not that I am sure where Beckenham is???? Other option is to move like I did as I was pissed off with driving in Perth traffic!!!! PS. Probably wouldn't use the Leach any way but the Roe and may be go up South street, but hey it is peak time so it going to be difficult regardless. rob-c
Take a good book, time will pass slowly
Druid
Beckenam to Murdoch in peak hour, good luck, as Stevie G said, you would be better off going Roe & South St, Roe shouldn't be too bad as all the traffic at that time of the morning is going the other way, but South is a nightmare that time of the morning, bumber to bumber from traffic light to light, could take you 20 mins to do Roe to Murdoch on South

Thank you. Hope you are had a great Christmas. Wish you a happy new year. Sorry can't be too much help, but that's Perth. Things may become better in the Murdoch area once they have finished all those blinking road works(always the optimist). Best is always to go early or later( approx. 5:30 am or after 9-ish) or simply catch a bus! Fortunately don't have to endure it any more as I have moved to Margret River. Rossmoyne
Stay away from Leach Highway in the rush hour if you can. Apart from the many traffic lights, there are always accidents, and a journey that can take 15 minutes in normal times can blow out to an hour or more. The road works on South Street at Murdoch have been ongoing for a very long time but having come that way on Christmas Eve I can see they are getting nearer to completion. The best route would be to get out of Murdoch and travel through Bateman on Parry Avenue and then rejoin South Street after the Freeway at Bull Creek (Benningfield Road). Then you could go straight along South St to Roe Highway - exiting the Roe at Kenwick Link - Beckenham is to the left. Have a little look at Google maps. Bottom line though is that getting anywhere in Perth during the rush hour is a flaming nightmare and once you get away from the train lines, public transport seems to disappear into oblivion! StraighttothePoint
Why does everyone want to drop their kids off at school? Make the wee beggars use buses, walk or cycle as Stevie says above Dropping kids off at schools is part of the reason we have so many flaming traffic jams!! Once they get to a certain age tell them to get on with it, makes them more independant as well Not having a go at the original poster, because I do not know the circumstances, just saying this as a general point in relation to the debate and to part solving Perth's horrendous traffic problems at peak times...... Rossmoyne
Get your point STTP....made mine walk but we were so close it took longer to get the car out to go the long way than for them to walk through the alleyways with me.... but some people do not have that luxury. So what about people who have to drop their children and then go on to work.... what about people who have very young children in Pre Primary or in primary schooling who are too young to walk the distance and then do a full day at school. Times have changed since you were at school obviously. And we all have to look out for those white vans you know!!!

Times have changed since you were at school obviously. And we all have to look out for those white vans you know!!! Nah get all that and your points are correct. I did say when those who could do it got to a certain age. Think all I am saying is if it is possible do it and that way we at least try and contribute to the overall reduction of cars on the road. I used to walk past my sons senior school and see people dropping off year 11 and 12's from their cars who were more adult looking than some of the adults I talk too on a daily basis. The bottom line is a lot of folk are lazy, don't want hassle and seem in many cases go for the easy option. As for the white van issue that has always been the case even when the white vans were horse drawn carriages. If we all lived in that much fear none of us would go out the door. Cumbria
Thanks everyone. Ours are 5 and 2. It sounds, Roe better than Leach. We are also looking at renting at Rossmoyne, Riverton or Canning Vale and not to consider Murdoch after your words of wisdom. Thank you
