Thought it might be nice to share our moving journey as we will be arriving around the same time. Do you have any kids Nikki?

I have a daughter who's 7 and a son who is 3 next week and my hubby Ryan. We were going to fly from Edinburgh or Glasgow but as we have to visit my in laws down south thought we may as well just go from London. have you had your visa for long? where are you heading when you get there? We were going to fly from Edinburgh or Glasgow but as we have to visit my in laws down south thought we may as well just go from London. have you had your visa for long? where are you heading when you get there? Sorry I didn't have access to wifi earlier, I'm home now. Michael (hubby) has been working in Perth for the last year, he works offshore and his company have been flying him back and forth to the uk every month, working month on month off, on the condition that we were willing to move over eventually. So me and the girls are coming over in May on his 457 employer sponsored visa. Plan is to apply for our permanent residency after we arrive. Hoping to find a rental in Duncraig/Carine area as I quite like the sound of the high schools there. I know im getting way ahead of myself as the girls are so young but im trying to think longer term! Also I work in finance so need to be not too far from the city as that's probably where I will end up working. Where are you guys planning to head to? What do you both do for work? Are the kids excited? We haven't told our eldest yet as we've still to tell my parents we are definitely moving. I wanted to wait til after xmas and new year as I know they will be devastated. Michael parents and all our friends know so I really better tell them soon before someone else does! How did your family react to the move? Michael is in perth just now, I cant wait to get over there! Lots of organising still to be done tho!
nikkiwd
Tell me about it janine, happy new year to you too x Susan your husband has some commute home, I wouldn't want to do that flight every month! My parents and hubbys dad are supportive, as are all our friends but I don't think any want us to go...well I hope they don't want us to go:err: His mum did make it clear how unhappy she was about it but she has been buttoning her lip recently. She doesn't travel (few issues) so will never come out to see us which is hard for Ryan but hes decided its her problem now. I have actually been looking at Kingsley, Duncraig and Padbury recently but I think we just need to get there to see, some of the suburbs a bit further up also look good and so do some SOR. Its so hard as with kids you dont want to move them again after starting in a school so have to get it right. My daughter doesn't want to go as she will miss her friends but she will make new ones quickly I'm sure. Finn hasn't got a clue about any of it which is easy. I am a pastry chef and hubby is a chef, we have a wedding catering business here but we would just get jobs over there. verystormy
Tip. For those flying with Singapore Air. They do a offer called the Singapore Stopover. It is a deal for a night or two in a 5* hotel with transfers both ways for next to nothing - we did it five years ago when we moved over and it was $20 for a night in the Ritz. SusanFrako
Aw I'd love to be a chef! My jobs really boring but pays the bills I suppose. I know what you mean about schools, it stressed me out thinking that we won't find in a rental in an area we'd like to live longer term and then have to move schools again. Eva is in primary one just now over here and will need to repeat it again over there. Will your daughter need to repeat a year as well? I'm not too worried bout it, I think it'll do her good really. We have friends in kinross which is bit further north and sounds nice, just a bit too long a commute for me. have you got any quotes for shipping yet? That's what I'm doing next really. Got a couple in already for 20ft container but need to get a lot more to try get their prices down I think. I've seen people on here get it for 2800 but my quotes are coming in a lot more just now. Not sure if its cos we're shipping from Scotland and not further south?
JMG79
Happy New Year and congratulations Nikki!, Your right, that is a good way to start a New Year. I'm currently looking at flights, to go ahead of the wife and kids and find job etc, got to more valuations on the house this week for letting, renting it out. Then going to do the all the DIY:arghh: while I’m off work, if I don’t find a job in the next month, thinking of just going straight to Perth and taking a gamble there. Not sure if its cos we're shipping from Scotland and not further south? Yes I think Eloise will have to go back a year, she is in primary 3 just now. Finn was supposed to start nursery after Easter but not sure its worth starting him just for a couple of weeks. Need to look into what he could do once we get out there, not sure what age they start kindy etc. I think we are just going for a move cube from Seven Seas as we don't really need a full container, a lot of our furniture we want to just leave and replace at the other side as its not the best. I got an online quote and it was around £1000 for a large cube so I think that will do us. Hubby originally didn't want to ship anything he said 'just get rid of it all'! I have since made him aware of the amount of personal stuff, toys etc we have and can't get just rid off so he has come around now! We are leasing our business out so we have a lot to organise for the change over, we have bookings we are committed to up until the 10th May so after then its a rush to get packed up and get out. It must be hard for you having your husband away for a month at a time, mine considered FIFO when we get out there but I couldn't do it. Hi JMG79, so you are trying to get a job before you get there, what do you do? A lot of husbands seem to have gone out first to get jobs and a rental etc but I wouldn't trust my hubby to find a decent place and we'd be stuck in some s*** hole when we got out there:laugh: We live in a rented house so that one is easy, we just give notice and leave but we own another house which is currently tenanted. Plan was to sell that so we told tenants and they have said they want to buy it, if they go ahead then that makes things simple for us. We will all get past these planning and organising stages and get on that plane sooner or later, good luck to you with finding that job. JMG79
I have been trying but with no joy as yet. I work in logistics, there is another thread running on my industry, seems I will have to start at the bottom again to get a foot in the door and then apply for management positions, TBH I was anticipating having to do this, so it does not really bother me. I want to go ahead just because it’s cheaper and the kids are 3 and 16 months so will be hard work and expensive if we all go together. My wife chose the last two houses we lived in now it’s my turn, I Want a break from DIY . We looked and selling up and renting until we move but at every valuation so far they have advised us to rent the house out for 12 months, and I like the idea of having a safety net in the UK, plus it means we cant spend any money from the sale of the house. So we will see what next week brings when we have the last valuation, and I find out if I have to fit a new kitchen or not. Where have you looked at living in Perth? we’ve not been to the west coast before, We looked at Mandurah, warnbro, canning vale, Fremantle, but al depends on where one of us finds work really, somewhere in the suburbs but commutable to CBD just in case. Thanks for the tip VS, will look into this! We have been debating whether to stop over in Singapore for a few nights or just fly straight through and save the money for more important things when we get there. If we could stop over this cheaply then it seems like a no-brainer! Congratulations Nikki on booking your flights, as soon as we have decided on this stopover business I'll be booking ours

I see your point about spending house sale money if you sell, we will leave the money here until we are ready to buy. We have lost a few grand from what we paid for the house 6 years ago but hey ho, our tenants have paid the mortgage for that whole time so we aren't too bothered and it saves us agent fees if they buy it. I have been looking at suburbs NOR and SOR but it is mind boggling, we will wait until we arrive and see where we like (and is affordable!) we have friends in Mandurah and Clarkson so opposite ends of Perth. You will love it if you have never been before, we have traveled all around OZ and Perth was our favourite place.
SusanFrako
Thanks for the info about the move cube, I'll look into that. Michael working fifo is not as bad as it sounds. He gets 6 months of the year off so actually sees the girls more than if he had a 9-5 job. He gets to pick them up from school and nursery and do things with them that he wouldn't have time to do with a normal job. I just keep myself busy when he's away. It's harder in the winter as there is nothing to do in the wind and rain. In the summer the month flies by though so I'm hoping the lifestyle in Perth will make it even easier, as we can always go to the park or beach etc.
SNarayan
Hi Nikkiwid, COuld you please confirm what your initial entry date is? Is it one year from the date of medicals / PCC? I am waiting for my visa grant and I wont have my passport until May this year due to my UK visa extension. So just a bit worried how long will the initial entry date be.
