Guest Hannah Rose Smith
Hello everyone and happy new year!! I'm 20 and my boyfriends 25 and we're going to be moving over to Perth at the end of Feb. I just wanted to know where people usually stay when they first arrive as we are hoping to try and get jobs straight away and would probably need to look at renting somewhere to stay once we have jobs. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm also a bit worried about trying to get a job as some people have said that it's took them a few months to find work? I finished college and have been doing season work in Europe every summer for 3 years, working on a campsite cleaning accommodation and working on reception. I work in the same restaurant every winter as they take me back on when i'm home. Is it quite easy to get restaurant/barista work or even cleaning work? I was also looking at the agricultural work you need to apply for a second year visa, would anyone suggest doing this first and trying to save up a bit of money? Please can anyone share tips or info we need to know before coming out there??!! Thanks Hannah xxxx
jamesw
Most people arrive and stay in a hotel or a fully furnished house until they find something more permanent. Check out stayz.com.au for an idea on what's available. If you are going to do hospitality type work, you will have to do an online course, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
portlaunay
Hi and welcome to PP, sorry I missed your thread a few days ago. With regards to work, if it's unskilled, casual type stuff you're looking for you shouldn't find it too difficult. There are many people your age passing through on WHV's and they all seem to survive on barista/bar/waiting type jobs, it just depends on what area you're coming to as to whether work will be plentiful.
