Nadrim
Just finishing final evening. Mum is still hysterical that we are "breaking up" her perfect family and wants me to throw in my job and would rather me sign on as unemployed here as I don't want to go back to my previous job. Had to restrain myself from swearing. The kids and their cousins were in tears too. Not the best ending in the UK. It's amazing behaviour from my mum as she is flying to see us in 5 weeks. Designed to really maximise the guilt and stress! My poor cat is just finishing his 27 hour journey to Sydney quarantine. Hope he's ok as he was really angry when I left him. Just hope everything works out!

Nadrim
Gave her a hug. Says she loves me and that it should be my mission to return before she dies! Initially got temp accom in South Perth then in Yokine not far from the CBD.

Lou8670
You've made me think.....I'll need some tactics as I think at least one of ours and possibly both may become a state on our last night. My Dad has not helped....he had family emigrate in the 60's and didn't see them again for over 20 years....so he keeps saying to my Mum "well you don't know whether you'll ever see them again" and Mum starts crying. It's really not helpful and not true as they both currently holiday and travel a lot so I have no doubt they'll be over by Xmas. Sending you big hugs xoxoxo. Be strong (unlike your Mum).....you'll be seeing her again in only 5 weeks! Lou Edited January 6, 2014 by Lou8670
Nikkis2000
We feel your pain Nadrim! As I type this you're probably being called to the gate - we're just getting brekkie in T3! Before we left yesterday OH mum completely broke down. I heard her husband saying (not to her!) that it was like being at a funeral waiting for the hearse to arrive! aligard
Stay strong you guys, it will all settle down in time once you are over there. Saying goodbye is always going to be hardest part we all have to face when we take this amazing adventure, but life is for living and we all take our different paths in life, just as our families/parents did before us. So stay strong, give lots of hugs and kisses and enjoy the new adventure . Safe trip all xx
Nadrim
Thanks guys. I'm texting from emirates wifi! 3 hours from Dubai stopover. Glad I've not got the only awkward parents! They've really made me feel bad on the plane. Luckily the kids have been pretty well behaved so far!! The hearse thing sounds similar. My mum said it was like I was dead. She also said I'm abnormal going away for life. I said I've not touched Aussie land so how do I know how long I'll be. And I can't get another senior job in the UK easily. She said that needs to be my ambition to get another UK job to reunite the family. I really hate her at the moment.
Osmond8
Hang in there lovelies... I have to admit that this has made me giggle... Not because i think its hilarious, more out of nerves as i am about to go through this too this week before we fly on Thursday. My dad will be great, i know that, however.... My Mother?!!!!! I know it's going to be hell on Earth!!!! I worked with my mum in a small business and left there on christmas eve.... She can't deal with any of it but on the other hand... She has never been one to make great effort with me and the rest of the family outside of work!!!!!

Nadrim
I reckon they could do a reality tv show "the nut factor" with mums competing for the most neurotic behaviour. Mine would make the final 3. I'm sure she would win!
