jen140977
Hi all, planning move to WA, does anyone know of any specific recruitment agencies for social workers in WA? I am looking at WA government child protection as most obvious area to apply but any other opinions really appreciated Thanks, j

moss2oz
Hi all, planning move to WA, does anyone know of any specific recruitment agencies for social workers in WA? I am looking at WA government child protection as most obvious area to apply but any other opinions really appreciated Thanks, j I don't think there are many in WA. I've looked before. However, I wouldn't have thought you would need to register with an agency if you have a 189 visa. Have you looked on seek.com? There's always social work posts on there. I emailed Key Assets about a vacancy they had last week for a social worker in fostering which is what I do. Although my visa isn't granted yet (fingers crossed it will be) I hope to be over in Perth later this year. The lady emailed me straight back and said to get in touch when I arrive to see if there any jobs at the time. DCP used to have a pool application but it seems to be closed at the moment but am sure they'll have something similar up again soon. Sami
Hi, I don't have much job advise as I'm in the UK, I have worked with Key Assets (Core Assets in the UK) and they are a very good company to work for. I just wondered how you both found the visa assessment process and I am looking to start it soon for a Social Worker 189 skilled visa x

I just wondered how you both found the visa assessment process and I am looking to start it soon for a Social Worker 189 skilled visa x I started the 190 visa process at the end of November last year. Went for our medicals yesterday and uploading all the documents this week. Then, just wait to hear if I get my visa granted! Eek! i found process ok but have wanted to go for many, many years so had done all my research already and knew what I needed to do. Had my IELTS test last year (sat twice to get all 8s) and AASW assessment last year. I've gone for 190 because I needed the extra points and that's why I needed the 20 points from the IELTS test. When are you starting and are you doing it yourself or using an agent? Debbie
Sami
I've spoken to a migration agent and they advised I could apply for the skills assessment when I complete Uni however I'm unsure they are right & thinking I need 3 years experience? I have enough points without this if I score an 8 on the IELTS. Good luck for the visa application! X
ali
I wouldn't register with an agency - what about hospital social work or apply to DCP, as someone said seek.com or jobs WA. I know there are probably a lot of social workers at the hospital I work seem to be on fixed term contracts
moss2oz
I wouldn't use an agent. You're right you need 3 years post qualifying experience even for the skills assessment with AASW. I had to wait before I could submit mine last year. Also, DCP require a positive skills assessment so you would need to wait three years. Some non government places may take without AASW assessment. You see, over here in the UK you have to be registered but in Australia you don't have to be registered with the AASW. Probably not helpful but I've been there and know how frustrating and disappointing it can be to get your hopes up to be let down. Debbie. Well I will look at the bright side, it gives us chance to save up more money & it gives my hubby time to get some extra qualifications, will still only be 29 so still get high points Thanks for your help. Lisa888
Hi Jen, just saw your post. I am working in Perth as a social worker - been here for 3 years and it was very confusing trying to get my head around it from the UK ! If I can be of any help just let me know. Don't be put off. There are a few social work agencies here. Lisa
