SteveJ
Well hi there everyone. We have been long time visitors but not posted before. We are Steve, sarah & two kids. We have been looking at the big move for many years and finally starting the process. My partner Sarah is the main applicant (nurse) and sitting her IELTS next month. We are applying on the 189 but hoping to settle in WA, not sure where yet though. The goal would be to have the visas by the end of the year2014 and validate 2015 with a view to moving around late 2017. We have so much to find out and so much to do but sure we will get there. Any help and advice would be much appreciated. Steve
Redsquare
Hi Steve. Welcome to perth poms. It sounds like you're going down the same route as myself and my OH (a nurse). Feel free to ask questions and have a look through old threads.
portlaunay
Hi, welcome to PP. As Red says, take a look through some old threads, you'll probably find answers to most of your questions.
SteveJ
Thanks I have been looking at the skill select reports and am I right in thinking that EOI are ranked first by points number then by time in system(seniority as such). Therefore providing the occupation ceiling for your occupation has not been met if they are inviting 500 at 60 points and 300 at 65 points on last round. Lodging a EOI with 65 points will be ranked higher then the 60 points ones regardless of time in system. Cheers
Lou8670
That's right Steve. Higher points are invited first.

Akasully2
Welcome PP! reading your post and seeing that you are at the beginning of the application process brings it all back to me. What a long road we have travelled to get where we are. Still not at the end of the road yet but it is in sight. Searching and posting on here has been so valuable. Loads of fab info and advice. Good luck.
SteveJ
Thanks everyone the response and welcoming on here is amazing and I just hope I can help others as everyone else is to us when I have the knowledge and experience to do so. I'm trying to clarify the terms of the resident return visa at the min. I know it's not really relevant at the moment but I have a thirst for knowledge and an obsession to plan ahead. Do you have to have been resident for 2 years to get a resident return visa and if so does that mean that if we validated our visas but did not move till approx 4.5 years from grant of visa (ie 6 months before expiry). Would I be restricted to stay in Australia until I had been there 2 years before I could come and go freely unless exceptional circumstances ie family funeral. When you get your visa (if it's a skilled permanent visa) it will be valid for 5 years. You have to be in Australia when it expires and that's when you'll need a resident return visa to leave Oz and return if you haven't become a citizen by then and got your Aussie passport. SteveJ
Looking online at the 155 and 157 RRV it looks like to qualify you have to have been resident for 2 years so if we move over 6 months before visa expires we will have 18 months where our 189 PR visa has expired and we do not have enough residency time to apply for the RRV. The only variation I can see is for exceptional circumstances such as family funeral providing you can prove you have ties to Australia such as job etc.
