JenPen
Please can someone help. I have been adding it all up, cost of our stuff, cost of storage, cost of buying again etc etc It works out cheaper if we just sell up and buy again in OZ. Therefore, who can help with info on shipping our memorabilia, clothes, bedding, toys, books etc? How do I do this? without using a huge 20ft container? Thanks and sorry if been asked before, I do not seem to her very good at finding the answers on here if I search
Gaz H
Hi Jen, I'm literally just going through the same process now. We are only shipping the personal effects and sentimental stuff. we have been told by PSS that we can sent it with them professionally packing it. it is done by volume so they have quoted me £679 for 70ft3 which is about 2 x 1m3 not including insurance which an additional 2.5%. Alternatively as it is a small amount they have said we can send it self pack or Baggage freight which is done by cartons or Tea crates. the cartons are 40 x 50 x 60 cms. if you send 2 then you get one free. so we have a quote for 6 cartons "self pack" and a set of golf clubs for £245 door to door not including insurance which is now 5% (because you pack yourself). I think there is also a $200 charge for customs on the other side regardless of quantity. Hope that makes sense Basically you can send as little or as much as you like and the price will depend on the volume (not weight, within reason) I have the guy from Bonner over this week to give us another quote so I'll let you know what he says. Nancy
We're just having the same discussion.. Decided to leave our furniture here and get a move cube for all our personal stuff
nikkiwd
Have a look at the 'move cube' from Seven Seas, they do 3 different sizes as well. We are just going to ship a large one when we move in May. If you have a look through poms in oz there are a couple of threads that show pictures. The company drops the container, you pack it and they come and collect it a few hours later.
JenPen
Thanks guys this is great! I really look forward to what they say Gaz, thank you! I will take a look at PIO and see pics - does it say how much it is for a big one as their site doesn't really say and I found it odd haha! I have read that a large one would fit a bed in it etc? That would be fab because then we could keep our daughters bed as it is nice and would also help settle her in a bit better I think. We don't have much stuff and most is IKEA flat pack anyway but I begrudge paying for storage and a huge container if I can get away with saving more etc.
nikkiwd
I managed to do an online quote for a large and it was just over £1000, yes they are big enough to take some furniture, I am quite fond of my ikea daybed which I am tempted to take and my daughters bed is coming as well. JenPen
Hi Nikki Thanks I looked at the seven seas website and it is much clearer I used a link on here before and it took me elsewhere and wanted me to enter sizes etc for quotes and all sizes i put in it rejected but this site is much better so thank you - still debating what to take and how much - wondering about sofa's and whether to change things but we shall see, might have got some free storage whilst we are living with the parents so that would save money so if we can take it all then it would be cheaper in the long run I think…. when are you going? nikkiwd
I think if you have good stuff then its worth taking but a lot of our furniture isn't so may as well buy better stuff out there. We are flying 27th May, how about you?
JenPen
I do think most of our stuff would fit in a move cube so will probably use that - we are flying next Jan - still need to get a visa but it should all work out OK (FX, I really hope). May is creeping up - how very exciting!
