Could anyone offer advice on the State Sponsored 489 Visa?

Hi Gang

I'm a nurse hoping to apply for a State Sponsored 489 visa, and was hoping to get advice on two questions.

1) My occupation is listed as being Schedule 2. According to the WA site, applicants with occupations on schedule 2 "may require an offer of employment". Is there anyone with any advice on when this might apply? Is a job offer always a necessity? and if so, will they make that clear when you apply for the EOI?

2) In another thread mwjw kindly told me that he has been restricted to certain areas of WA as part of the condition for his state sponsored 489 visa. Does anyone know if this is always the case? or is it occupation specific? If so, can anyone offer any advice on areas where nurse are needed?

Any feedback or advice anyone can give on this type of visa would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

I think all 489 visa holders have to live and work in a regional area(mandurah is classed as a regional area though). I think also that if your occupation is schedule 2 then you need to have a job offer to even fill in your EOI. There are limited places for schedule 2 occupations and there is another thread on here following whether anyone with one of these occupations has received an invite yet.

I would assume that if it is schedule 2 you will need a offer. Likewise, yes, you must live in a regional area for 2 years and worked in a regional area for at least 1.

The closest regional area to Perth is Mandurah and is as a result popular with 489 holders. There is a nice hospital there called Peel. I would get in touch with them to see if they have any vacancies. Another option is to look at mining and exploration companies as many have nurses on site and operate on a FIFO basis - you fly to work on a Monday morning and fly home the following monday for a week off. Have a look at infomine.com and ISOS
