Lou8670
Hi all We have a great gas camping stove and whilst I know we can't bring the gas I was wondering about bringing the stove. Do you have the same camping gas cylinder fittings in Australia as in the UK? Cheers Lou :-)
ecass3
What coincidence! I'm just sorting through my camping gear & was wondering the same thing! Also the electric hook up- will I need a different connection to the mains? I could do with taking it for my fridge, light & kettle. Any advice please? Chardy
Different gas fittings and possibly jets too. Camp stoves are pretty cheap here. Electrical, just buy an extension lead from Bunnings here, only $15 for 25m and the plugs are different (same as house ones). You can change the plugs on your kettle etc or bring a UK multiway adaptor and put an Aussie plug on that.
ecass3
Ok thanks Chardy. One less thing to fit in the container!
Lou8670
How about Campingaz? We have a 2 stove burner and grill.
Chardy
Hmm not 100% but going on past threads it will be the same. Any UK gas appliances need fittings changed and camping stuff is pretty cheap here. Our 2 burner stove was $50 plus $30 for a bottle which is around $25 to refill, Think seriously about your tent too, they are also good prices and much better equipped to deal with Aussie conditions. Our 4 room 9 berth cost $399 and it's an Oztrail, one of the best brands.
ecass3
Ah, again Chardy that helps me with another dilemma. I think I'll just sell my Coleman tent, rather than worry about whether I've cleaned it well enough!
Chardy
Ah, again Chardy that helps me with another dilemma. I think I'll just sell my Coleman tent, rather than worry about whether I've cleaned it well enough! Trust me, you'll want a tent with full built in groundsheets and insect nets here ! Camping is awesome here though, starry skies like you've never seen before !
Laz
Hi...I'm just bumping up this old thread because I'm about to buy a new Campingaz stove in the UK but I don't know whether to buy the hose fitting or to wait until we are in Oz. Do you use Calor gas bottles in Australia? If I buy the hose fitting will it work with camping gas bottles in Australia? The reason I'm buying now is that it's cheap....and we won't have spare cash when in Perth so I'd rather get everything I can whilst I'm still in the UK. Thanks! Druid
Laz, the Aussies do things a little different, but you can buy a hose and regulator from Bunnings and make it fit just about any appliance, using an Aussie gas bottle, not sure about the camping gas canisters, I will have to go to BCF and have a look
Laz
Thanks Druid. I might just buy it and figure it out when we get there...not sure. Have been doing some research but don't really understand it....
Druid
As long as you don't buy one of those completely portable gas stoves with the individual gas canisters that you use for hiking it will work when you change the regulator, here the Aussies have a screw on regulator to go into the gas bottle, in the UK it's a quick release but it's all the same gas, so no need to worry about jets etc, I troughs my camping stove and even a gas bbq, they all work fine with a new Aussie regulator & hose from Bunnings
