Rugby union

We were chatting to my son last night, who's 9 and in year 5, about sports they do at various schools we are looking at and he was horrified and upset that schools only play touch rugby until year 7 (I think). He's been playing contact rugby for Jersey for nearly 2 years.

I am right in thinking it's only touch rugby till year 7?

If not, can anyone recommend any clubs SOR he could join to get his weekly dose on contact rugby?

Rugby Union is big here, with our WA team Western Force representing our state, there are numerous RU clubs dotted about, our local RU club Kalamunda Bulls RU club are very successful and for all ages, I have no doubts you will find something for your lad. Touch rugby is big here too, pretty sure full contact is played at all ages. My nephews played sevens for state many a moon ago now, but were very much involved from the age of 5....great game, although I do like to watch both codes! Try googling Mandurah as a starting point for clubs, I'm sure you will find something appropriate. The schools tend to teach all manner of contact sports, AFL being a big one, our girls even play it at our school.

Thanks pea. I've done a bit of googling and found Rockingham has a club based at Secret Harbour so I've emailed the email contact to find out more. Looks as though training is Tuesday and Thursday evenings but I'm not sure when from and to. Hopefully they'll come back to me this week. My boy will be devastated if he misses out on playing this winter.

Mandurah Pirates play in Meadow Springs. They have their own ground and club house and have players of all ages.

Thanks Jamesw. I've emailed Rockingham so far and also joined their FB page as it seems they use that more than their website. Enrolment was last week and they started training this week. I hope he can join a few months in as we don't arrive till 13 May. He's played all this season but will miss the last month.

Do you know when the season runs to?
