Guest Woody50
Hi all, I have been following this site for a long time and enjoying all the stories! We are a family of seven, my husband is a plumber, heating engineer aged 49,I'm a community nurse aged 39 some hospital ward experience but mainly community district nursing since qualification 4 years ago. I have gained score of 8 on my IELTS in August last year. My next step is to apply for my nursing quals to be assessed. Would any of you be able to advise? Should I state on my application that I a community nurse or medical nurse, as looking at the SOL, the ANZCO definition for medical nurse is closer to what I do than the community definition. I think I'd have more chance of sponsorship if I was medical, am I right? Also, we have our eldest at university, I am clueless about this one so if anyone can help. Could we add her on to the application as she is still classed as a dependant? She is 20. If not she will apply in her own right once qualified, (teaching) don't know what is the best option!! Thanks for reading.

travelchic
I was unsure about which anzsco code to use as I'm medical but the description of my duties meets surgical. I asked ANMAC about which code to use and they advised me. Just contact them. I found them helpful but others say they weren't very helpful. They are the ones who are assessing your skills after all, so they can give the best advice. Debs

Hopeful
Hi Woody50, I also asked ANMAC for advice and they were more than helpful- I am general trained by registration but matched against mental health due to last 20 years being in mental health and an MSc in the area, they advised me to request assessment against that which closely matched my skills and experience, if any different I am sure they will let you know. In relation to your eldest, my understanding is that if she is wholly dependant on you financially and has been for the last 12 months (ie not in employment to support herself) she can go on your application- check it out though coz I not 100% sure. Good luck!
ali
I agree with the above ask which code then you know you've got it right from the off. Your daughter providing she remains in education for the duration of the application (not just at submission) should be able to go on your visa. When you say sponsorship visa are you looking at 457? this is only a temporary visa and no guarantee that it will progress to PR (although many do), personally, PR offers you more security from the beginning, you can change jobs if you don't like it. Guest Woody50
Thank you all for your helpful replies, just emailed ANMAC re the code query. It's very much one step at a time this process isn't it? This has been years in the thinking for us and much research over the past 12 months or so, the information is too much to process in one go I keep having to read and re read!!! Regarding the visa thing, I think I need to get a sponsor to boost my points. I could always do the IELTS again though as I only got 7 for my reading!! I know what you're saying Ali about the PR thing, it probably would be a better option. Going to an expo in Manchester next weekend so I will see what I get from there. Meanwhile enjoy the weekend all and thanks. Liz
verystormy
It may be worth speaking to a registered migration agent. There are a number that are highly regarded.
