Linda21
Hi, This is for any UK qualified driving instructors working in Australia. Can you please confirm whether UK driving instructors have to go through VETASSESS. I know the CSOL list specifies VETASSESS, but when I contacted VETASSESS they told me to check with DIBP. I have tried to do this but have had no reply. Anyone have any info on this or a telephone number I could try to contact them? Thanks
Guest bartuzi
Hello Linda21 Wonder If you found out something about it yet, as I am in the same situation as you. Can you let me know please. Thanx
Linda21
Hi Bartuzi, yes we found out that you do go through VETASSESS but they are unlikely to approve the UK ADI unless you have HE qualifications as well. The best way around it for Perth appears to visit Perth and sit the ADI course over there - that way you would be applying as an Australian Approved Driving Instructor and therefore have a cert. IV qualification that VETASSESS would recognise. From memory it costs around £700 as APL would likely be awarded if you are a UK ADI. The course is theory based and lasts 5 days spaced over a 2 week period. From memory it was something like 2 days in the first week and then 3 in the second, with the final assessment being on the Friday. We contacted www.mirotraining.com.au who were very helpful. Good luck.

Paulo
Dear Steve My name is Paul Arcanjo, I am an approved Driving Instructor in London, Uk for the past 5 years, before relocating to London I have worked in Portugal and Spain also as a driving instructor. Here in London I have also worked as a Driver Quality Monitoring assessor and Fleet trainer. Me and my wife are now moving to Perth where my brother-in-law lives. I was wondering if i can exchange my ADI qualifications to the WA equivalent or if i have to sit the exams again... any help would be most welcome Best Regards Paul
hellokitty
I feel like those of us who are either training to become an ADI or are already qualified are wondering around in a minefield. I have tried to ascertain from vetassess what they deem a highly relevant field of study would be for a driving instructor would be and they couldn't tell me. So, I need to know what I need in order to have a positive skill assessment to do a job that I will be doing over here for migration to WA. I may just follow previous advice and fly out to WA and sit my certificate iv instead. But seriously if there is anyone that has jumped through these hoops and succeeded I would be most grateful and appreciative for some inside information. Are you aware it is a schedule 2 occupation which means WA will only consider sponsorship if you have a job offer.
hellokitty
Hi, I am aware. The problem that we driving instructors face is that we are all sub contractors and in order to qualify for employer sponsorship we need to be employed as apposed to be self-employed or sub-contractors. There is very little information on driving school websites regarding what the schools offer for actual instructors. It is all geared towards to the learners. I am trying to find a driving school that employs their driving instructors, that is proving very difficult. If anyone knows of any driving schools that are already approved business sponsors and are willing to employ, I would be very grateful for any help in this direction.
