flatpack
We move to Perth in August this year (PR) and are renewing our UK pass ports before we set off as they run out in the next couple of years. We would like plans in place if we have to do any emergency travelling. Here's where the question comes into play. If we have another child once we are in Oz, they will be entitled to an Australian passport (AFAIK), if we had to travel back to the UK in an emergency would our Ozzie child be able to travel unhindered or would we have to get a visa for them to enter the UK? beandownunder
would the baby not have dual nationality therefore a British passport too? .... just found this http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/moving-back-uk/191601-australian-passport-british-passport-my-child.html Edited March 13, 2014 by beandownunder
flatpack
I thought that they would get dual nationality but didn't want the hassle of applying for a British passport, just an Australian one.

I think it would be worth the hassle, if you were needing to come back for an extended stay, by the sounds of it. :-)
verystormy
A child born in Oz to a PR holder automatically is a Oz citizen. I would recommend you get both passports.

odies
why would you not want to have A british passport as well as an Oz one ? best of both worlds to me. If child born to british parents with british passports child can have both, but when coming back into Oz would come back in on the Oz one and when going to the uk would enter with the british passports , no hassle Edited March 13, 2014 by odies
