Started the long Process!

Just thought I would pop by and say Hi. After a few months of lurking here and a good few years of hubby trying to persuade me to give Oz a go today I have started the process to apply for my 189/190 visa. Applied to NMC for professional registration, transcript of training and looked at dates for my IELTS! Need to get some lovely passport photos taken and try and get a professional reference from work. Still very scared but also excited. Have many questions and thoughts. Will be taking with me my HGV driver hubby and 3 children 8,6,4! ! Need to also try and get the house fininshed but with a child at home sick today there goes my sanding opportunity! Hence the phone calls and paperwork requests instead!

I think this sites proves invaluable information for information and support that this journey needs and the friends to gain on both sides of the pond will also be a huge help.

Look forwards to doing the journey with you all! :jiggy:

Hey Mackie, welcome to PP, lots of people here with advice, help and experiences, so please feel free to ask or read the many threads that have been started on here by people who are in similar situations to yourselves, and those that have made the leap of faith and are here living in Perth.

Best of luck,

Thank you very much for your reply. I have been reading lots of information people have posted and found it to be really useful. Most terrified about completing my IELTS assessment!!.

Yes the dreaded IELTS assessments...seem to be the bane of many a migrants lives to be honest. Don't worry though you are in good company and many people have taken the test several times, and passed, so don't despair. Not something we had to endure, as ours was a 457 visa so not much needed to comply with visa requirements, but after reading posts on here, I sympathise with how tricky the IELTS can be.

Best of luck and keep reading and posting...

We thought about a 457 visa but im not in a position to work full time and I worried about the cost of school fees for 3! Best get it booked I suppose, start swatting up and pray I pass!

Yes the school fees are a biggie, especially for three, and no guarantees of being able to stay long term either as this is a temp visa. So I guess IELTS it is....sending positive vibes.....

Welcome and to echo the lovely Pea, you will find so much support and encouragement on here. It is a long process and we all have our wobbles along the way. We're all here to support each other and make it as easy as possible. Are you British and have always spoken English? If so you will have an advantage over lots of people taking the IELTS. I think the best advice seems to be practice lots and be careful with grammar and spelling. My OH did the IELTS for our visa (luckily for me!) He did it twice, but only because I'd booked him on the general test and he, like you, needs the academic oops! yes, I was in the doghouse for a while.

Good luck with your transcript, will they send it directly to you? as I need one for my AHPRA registration (I'm a midwife) but thought they would only send it directly to anmac or ahpra. Please let me know how you get on as I will request mine too if that's the case. thanks.

Your kids are similar in age to mine 9,7,2. we're off to Perth in October to have a reccie and then who knows........

Anyway sorry for the length of the reply!

Bean xx

Hi bean thanks for your reply and your information. I am also a midwife!! Yes born and bred British. Your poor hubby! At least he got to use his general test as a test run! I have requested that they send my transcript directly to the ANMAC (If they wont I will have to pay to get that one validated too) and then I will request that they send all evidence on the AHPRA to save me having to validate it twice! (I think you can do this?!?!)

We are trying to find the money to go over to Perth to have a little reccie too. Looking at August but its soo much money - money that we could use to emigrate but then again would be invaluable information.
