RyRy21
Hi i'm new to Perth Poms, hoping to find a friendly bunch of people as recently found a forum and they were unnecessarily nasty & didn't answer my question. I haven't used forums until now so hoping there not all like that. we are about to submit out 457 visa it is sponsored by my partners company but wanted to check if a doctor is ok to certify our passports/birth certs? we are UK based at the moment. Also does anyone know an est on timeline for a 457 if it is being done through a company? my partner already works for them in the UK and is being transferred to the Perth base. If anyone has any advice on the move or sites that they recommend that would help it would be hugely appreciated. thank you in advance for your help RyRy21
Daveakaginge
Hi, and welcome. Yes to the doctor certifying your passports, and about eight weeks for the process. Enjoy the experience

RyRy21
Thank you all! As you can imagine I've lists of questions but holding off as there not relevant yet. Hoping Visa will be sent by end of the week but my partners work are dealing with it all so I'm not sure. Around 8 weeks is good I panicked slightly after reading some people say within 2 weeks and we have too much to do so need the visa time to give us breathing space. we have a 22 month old son as well so hoping he has turned 2 before we travel so that they book him a seat on the flight. RyRy21
Not a problem I like to chat! Haha anyone else think this is a little odd my partners work advised him that his pay will be moved to oz from 1st April. He was told to get an oz bank account and tax code ready for the move so he did that then they told us about the change in his pay. What I don't understand is that we haven't submitted the visa yet so therefore don't have a move date. He will now have to transfer his money back to UK at a fee and lose out with the exchange. Is this normal?
jac2011
I may be wrong but I am sure that you cant access cash in a new bank account until you have presented to the bank in Australia with your ID?
RyRy21
I will get him to speak to his work he set the account up online which is what they told him to do
Lou8670
I may be wrong but I am sure that you cant access cash in a new bank account until you have presented to the bank in Australia with your ID? You can open an account from outside Australia. We did ours through HSBC international although they did need our visa details to open the account. Don't mean to freak you out but I'm sure someone on here recently had their 457 visa approved within 2 days of submitting their application... We still have to get house rented out although we have at least found the leasing agent we want to use. I can't do anything without a date so hoping his work will give us the time to do this once visa is through. I don't want to have to travel out myself with my wee boy that distance. he opened it with national bank of Australia as he is already with the Clydesdale bank and there linked apparently. Don't know if that makes any difference though for showing ID in country etc.
ali
If you're looking at this possibly ending up a permanent move (the 457 is a temporary visa), I would also get your hubby to start asking some questions of if they will sponsor for PR visa and what sort of time scale. I know your child isn't school age yet, but school fees for 457 holders will be applicable in WA and if you're thinking of a long term (rather than temporary stay), this might be important to you. Thank you that's really helpful. He is initially going to work on a project that is due to last 2years but they don't tend to ever be completed on time (new build in oil & gas) so I assume this is why they have told us to apply for the 457 visa. I will let him know about the PR and find out what they say.
portlaunay
Hi and welcome to PP. Our 457 took 48 hours so you may need to pre are yourselves for some negotiating with your employer about start dates. As for questions, you'll find a great many have already been asked by others on here so take a look through some previous threads for info. Good luck. Guest guest9824
Our 457 visa journey took about 3 months, I mean from start of the process to actually moving, we sold within two weeks of the house being on the market and started the process at the end of Jan beginning of Feb and we were out in Australia in the April of that same year, packed up, sold up, everything. The visa can take a very short time, as has been said, the whole process can take a little long, depending on your sponsors and how quickly they want you out here. Many don't sell up as this is a temp visa, we did but I won't go into that, but I guess if you are prepared for any eventuality it will be beneficial to you. Good luck. pea
RyRy21
Thanks Portlaunay I am working my way through and finding lost of helpful info. Peanuts we plan to rent the house out for now, we've got the leasing agent set up. We've also changed our mortgage to reduce so that the rent will cover all the costs involved in the rental. We just have to advise our mortgage company but they have already agreed to grant us permission to rent without a but to let thankfully. Other than that we are not very organised so I better get moving. I've still to hand my notice in at work and can't do that until we know what our dates will be. i plan to work in Perth (I read I will allowed on a 457)? I plan to work part time though and not sure if that's possible on a 457?
Plimthing
Welcome! 457 Visa's can come through very quick! 2days to 2 weeks, some longer. Regarding flying with your 22Mth Old, we found that a two year old will end up sitting on your lap anyway for most of the flight even tho they have there own seat. If the child is under 2, you will 99% of the time be given a bulkhead seat with a bassinet in front of you, which is brill because you get loads of legroom and extra space to dump all the gear you will require to entertain kids for 20 hours! DyLeB
Welcome if you are applying for the visa online - colour scans of original documents are accepted without requiring them to be certified.

I know you can open an account, I have done so myself, what I am saying is if her husbands salary is paid into the australian bank account she may not be able to transfer the cash to her UK account without first presenting with ID to the australian bank in which she has opened it. NAB have said we will have no access to our savings in our Australian bank account until we land in Australia and present with ID to a branch. RyRy21
It's all colour scans & copies that I have done but have had them certified anyway as a friend of mine is a DR which was handy. My partner has gone out to meet with the company and get information and to allow him chance to look at suburbs etc before we move so I think he has been into the bank I will check with him though. He plans to go to the post office there to have his documents certified.
Peata Whyted
Hi RyRy21, Good luck with everything. It took us about 4 weeks to get our paperwork together, medical done (if required) etc. once our 457 application was filed at the back end of Feb, it took 6 days for the visa grant to come through. We fly out to Perth a week on Saturday. Keep us posted on your progress. Pete.
RyRy21
Just wanted to thank everyone for there advice, unfortunately our plans are now on hold. Gutted but it was the right decision as it doesn't seem the job my partner accepted is going to be what he was told. It makes it to risky to move us all there with this company we will keep looking for other options and make it there at some point. Definitely for a holiday this year at least! verystormy
To have been eligible for sponsorship his occupation must be on one of the lists, which means there is a good chance he is eligible for a skilled visa. This would be a far better option anyway and I would investigate this.
Druid
I may be wrong but I am sure that you cant access cash in a new bank account until you have presented to the bank in Australia with your ID? No you are completely right, before you can touch any of YOUR money you wired over, you have to visit the branch with the "100 points of ID" check, this happened to me, I tried to pay for my short term furnished rental from the UK with my Oz bank account, what a disaster, I called the bank and they said very politely, oh, just come in with your ID and we will pay the bill, doesn't help much when you are in the UK! Then they suggested that I go there there office in the middle of London, that was 400 miles away.
Druid
Do you know if your husbands company already has the ability to sponsor your husband, the individual company needs a DIAC approval before they can sponsor anyone, this happened to me, the company that wanted to sponsor me approval had lapsed as it was only valid for a year, they had to reapply, get there approval back and only then could sponsor me, this dragged the whole process out by 8 weeks, once the application for 457 went in it only took 3-4 weeks, so in all it took about 12 weeks to actually get the visa
