Mrs&MrW
Hello everyone! We are new here... we have lots of questions but we'll start with the most urgent one! My husband and I are planning our move to Perth and we are very excited! Our visa is subclass 190 WA sponsorship. My husband is a teacher and for this reason our holidays options are quite restricted. We want to visit Perth and hopefully activate our visa in mid July 14, but we don't have our visa yet. CO have been assigned last week, medicals done on the 1st of March and police checks sent to CO today through our migration agent. From your experience, how long until we have our visa? Is it worth risking booking our holidays now? Flights prices are increasing every day (£116 more since we last checked a month ago), we already lost a great rental accommodation and don't want to loose another one... we are concerned if we wait too long, we'll pay a lot more for everything! Was is the same for you guys? Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. Thanks
nikkiwd
your visa should be granted pretty soon if all is in order and medicals aren't referred. Why don't you book with an airline that allows changes? we booked with Singapore for this reason and I changed the flight to the day before online and it was done instantly, no charge. It just gives a bit of piece of mind should something crop up.

Hi nikkiwd... thanks so much for your reply... we are going to book with Singapore as well... it's actually a very good point... we are going to look into it! Now is just wait and see about the CO... our migration agent said they might delay our visa because they might decide to wait until July when is the start of the next Migration Programme year... that's our only concern MrsW
nikkiwd
I can't see why they would wait until July, nothing that may be in the changes would affect you as you already have lodged the visa and paid for it. The grant should come soon
ali
I remember our visa being granted in July (years ago) because they'd reached their quota
Lou8670
I think they publish the quotas and where they have reached their ceiling online.
verystormy
I would wait. Particularly if it's a 190. There have been a number of posters on PIO who have recently (this week) had emails to say quota has been reached for the year.
nikkiwd
I thought quotas only affected whether invites were given or not, just assumed once the visa is lodged you are safe...you learn something new every day!
Mrs&MrW
Thank you everyone for the replies... It's a bit of a worry to think the quotas have been reached for this year... I'll try to find information somewhere to read on it... if anyone has a link about it would be great! Thanks again :smile2:
Rossmoyne
Let us know how you go Mr&MrsW...... but the suggestion to book a flight that allows changes is a good one. Also, you can often get some last minute discount fares via lastminute.com if you have the nerves to go with that! Keep us posted eh??? nikkiwd
They way to look at the occupational ceilings is on here http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/ click on the tab that says reports. It also says that new changes that are in effect from 1st March are that state sponsored visas (190 and 489) are no longer subject to the occupational ceiling limits, hopefully good news for you! Mrs&MrW
Thank you everyone... I'll keep you posted on how it goes... this wait is nerve racking! We have received a letter from your CO saying that the number of visas being granted from Feb 14 is limited, but they are giving priority to s190, which is ours... so fingers crossed. I did like the idea of booking a flight we can change if needed... my biggest concern is losing a good accommodation... we have one in line, but every day that passas we risk loosing it... and if we lose it, we'll be paying at least double for other ones as there's nothing else with a similar price for the period of time we can go. But we'll see... thanks again... this forum is SUCH a big support!!! We're loving it!

I also received the same reply from CO. Struggling at each & every step of this process.

moss2oz
I emailed my CO after learning that they are only allocating a certain amount of visas until end June. He replied with the following..... Unfortunately your case is affected by the limits that you’ve spotted on the website. As planning levels affect all applications, including those in the final stages of processing, I cannot give you an indication as to the likely timeframe for finalisation of your application. Please be assured that I will progress your application as soon as possible. At this stage, there are no further documents required. I will, of course, let you know if anything comes up. Thank you for your patience. .......... From February 2014, the Skilled Regional Sponsored GSM category has a limited number of visa places remaining. The remaining places will be allocated in line with the priority processing arrangements. Further information is available on the department’s website. See: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...ssing-srs.html ......Basically they have a set allocation of visas to grant per year and from February this year they only have so many spaces available. I'm in the same situation as you. It's so frustrating. It could be granted next week but then could be July or later. I've put the house on the market and am planning on going out September but won't be going anywhere without the visa grant.
roop
hi moss2oz, My timeline is quite frustrating. I lodged my VISA on 25/10/13 but due to some additional med requirement, I had to wait till Feb. & now it stuck at this stage. I many times imagined myself writing the post in PP about the story of me of getting the VISA, how much struggle in terms of wait I had done & doing now also. But I think the time is not come to me to do that. Hope will post my this journey soon. It is good that u have planned to move in sep, but in my case it always postpone to the next month. Initially i planned for Jan then april & now it might be july/aug. Anyways we dont have anything in our hand so waiting for our turn. I believe Whatever happens, happens for something good. And no one get anything before time & more than luck. So I hope ours time will come soon. Bye...

roop
Hi lovely, Immi dept. has reached the VISA quota ceiling for this year 2013-14 ending June'14. So all the GSM visa grants has been slowed down. But you can send a polite mail to your CO & ask your visa grant status. They will reply you( might be with the same mail as mentioned above by moss2oz). But it's better to be informed rather than speculations. Good luck. Hello Roop I have no any email ID of my CO becoz He did not give me a single response, I confirmed from DIBP that CO has been assigned to my application. Lodged 22 nov,2013 CO assigned 09 Jan,2014 (Confirmed from DIBP) Occupation Pastry cook Visa 190 with Vic SS Would you like to share with me your status and occupation please?????? Secondly, I have seen on immigration website as below:- An occupation ceiling will be applied to invitations to apply to migrate under the points based skilled visas of the general skilled migration programme. There will be a limit on how many invitations are issued in these subclasses for a particular occupation to ensure that the migration programme is not dominated by a small number of occupations. Occupational ceilings do not apply to, State or Territory Nominated, Employer Sponsored or Business Innovation and Investment visa subclasses. In late 2013, the department conducted an evaluation of occupational ceilings to assess how they have operated to date and to consider changes to ensure they are performing their intended function. Based on feedback received as part of the evaluation, the following changes are now in place from 1 March 2014: State and territory nominated visas will no longer be subject to occupational ceiling limitations The minimum ceiling for each occupational group will be 1000 invitations. thanks
roop
Hi lovely, When you called DIBP, didn't they told you that your application assigned to xxxxteam with their e mail id? If not, call them again & they will tell you the team mail id. My application status is IN PROGRESS.... & my occ code is 233512. This ceiling mentioned by you is for EOI invitation.Other than this they have some VISA grant quota for 2013-14 which is reached out for GSM category. So Visa process is slowed down. They are not displaying the visa quota on their site. I come to know about this after CO's mail. Good luck.... roop
You can call them again & ask the CO name & his mail id. They will tell you. My CO's mail ids is like city.gsm.team no@immi.gov.au so in ur case it might be brisbane.gsm.team33@immi.gov.au & as per their auto response... When contacting your allocated case officer, please ensure that you include the following information in the subject line of all emails to DIBP: • The applicant’s full name and date of birth • Case officer’s name • File reference number Failure to provide this information may mean that your case may be unable to be identified, or blocked by the server. So it's better you know your CO name.... otherwise also no prb.....someone else from the team will check your mail.
