nikkiwd
We have our visas and will find work when we get there. I think it it pretty hard to find a job without a visa especially as it takes a while for the permanant visa process so why would an employer wait so long for their new employee to start. Most people apply for the visa, once its granted you will have more chance getting a job but the majority have to wait until they arrive before finding work. verystormy
That is the normal way 90% do it. The vast majority of employers will not consider someone until they are in the country.
travelchic
I am doing it that way but it's not stopping me from applying for posts from here anyway. You never know. My friend applied before she left for Australia and was successful. I just say on the application that I am willing to send confirmation of visa and registration by email if they want to see it. Rossmoyne
Highly unlikely that you will gain a job before you even have a visa grant. Once you have been granted a visa though would be the time to start job hunting, especially if you are arriving soon. The majority of people wait until they are here and know where they want to live, but if you are prepared to live anywhere, then do what Travelchic is doing as this is a good strategy. A word of warning though to be aware that you might not get a job for a few months, so have enough money to tide you over for 3 - 6 months just in case. We hear of situations on PerthPoms where people have had to go back to UK because they didn't have enough money to keep them until they got a job as they had expected to start work within days/weeks of arriving. To be realistic, those who gain jobs that quickly are extremely lucky as the majority of people take much longer to find employment. The whole HR/employment scene is very different in WA (don't know about elsewhere in Oz so cannot comment on that), but it seems here that many times it is who you know and what you know that gets you the job. That being the case I always recommend networking and just fronting up at places you want to work with your resume in hand. Sometimes even offering to do a day or two work experience so employers can see what you are made of.
