Guest Spenner
Hi guys, I'm new on here , just trying to get in to it all, I have many questions, as so do many others, I have had a look through and figured I would just ask on a new thread., so sorry if it's all been asked before .. Quick overview of our situation, we have permanent resident visas that run out 2015, we arrived in Perth and lived their for 6 months, loved it ...but we had a few family issues back in UK, felt we needed to be back in the UK, came home (long story) and have been longing to return, we found the original move to Australia went real good we had jobs , rental, we have a few friends their too that really helped us out. We have decided now is the right time to return we have 2 young children aged 6 and 7, all we are waiting for is our sale of the house.. Here's my question or 2 On arrival what do others do while awaiting a rental? We initially had a hotel stay and happened to be fortunate enough that our friends put us up for 2-3 weeks then we got the rental , but this isn't something I want to burden my friends with again..(which they probably would do for us) are there short term rentals that anyone could recommend? Another question is do we have to apply again for the TFN or would the original still apply? Sorry last one, same with Medicare would the original numbers still apply or again would that have to be renewed ? Many thanks for your interest and help Our original stay in WA was in Secret Harbour, beautiful place, can't wait to return:ssign19:
Akasully2
Hi, welcome to PP! we are heading over soon and plan to get a furnished 5 week holiday let whilst looking at areas to settle in and rent longer term once the furniture arrives. So why did you leave and why return? Others will help with the other stuff, no idea not there yet!
Nikkis2000
Hi Spenner, Welcome back! Bet you can't wait to get back. Do you know roughly when you want to get it or is it just a case of ASAP? With regard to your questions, yes there are defintiely short term lets that people use. I have heard of anything from 2 - 12 weeks but I suppose it depends on your budget. I can't recommend any particular company as we stayed with family but there are others out there that would probably be able to help. With TFN and Medicare, I'm not sure. I suppose it depends on how long you've been away and if you notified anyone to say you were leaving? I'd try the ATO and Medicare websites in the first instance. Admin
Your Tax File Number stays with you for life, so you wouldn't apply again http://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Tax-file-number/How-to-find-your-TFN/
Guest Spenner
Hey guys thanks for the quick reply, already great info. a great welcome! 3 replies each one with real help, i will spend this weekend looking in to the rental thing, cerberus1 thanks for the site. Nikkis2000 you know it, can't wait, good to know there's some out there , just struggling finding the right area at the minute.. Akasully2 there were a couple of reasons initially and it all just hit us a little hard with mixed emotions , we had a few illnesses in the family (which have since left us) along with none of our family supporting us, ( meaning just contacting us for a chat n stuff wishing us well, none of that, it was hard enough for us at that time) we only spoke to our moms once in a while brothers sisters etc never once called or mailed or emailed , it's hard as far as home sickness any time, along with the feeling of guilt, I'm not sure guilt for what, but it was there ... i do know the first moment I had landed back in London , I knew we had made a real mistake .. No I offence to London , just the mistake of returning too soon with realistically not giving it a chance , don't worry I totally blame myself... but out this time we know , we have to give it all , we have spent a long time a lot of effort , and this time is forever , sorry to get heavy , had a few wines now , but many thanks again. all the best Spenner
Rossmoyne
Hi Spenner In answer to your questions: 1. TFN is for life so you do not have to re-register. 2. Medicare No - depends whether you were issued a temporary number or permanent one. I would suggest that as you entered Australia on a PR visa, that your Medicare No would be a permanent one. You can check this with Medicare. 3. Short term rentals in Perth. Have a look at: http://www.ozhouserental.com/ http://www.stayz.com.au https://www.airbnb.com.au http://www.homeaway.com.au http://www.rent.com.au http://www.rent-a-home.com.au http://www.staysquare.com.au http://www.selectstays.com.au Best Wishes to you and your family on your return to WA. travelchic
Do your friends know that you are returning. They might want to help. They might be upset that you've not asked them. Debs
elfie
The rental market has slowed down some what of late. Lots of house rentals presently in SH. Plus with your previous rental experience perhaps reference from last rental agent you chances are very good.
