Goodbyes

Hi all

I don't usually get emotional at goodbyes, as I think the worlds too small to say a final goodbye, but I've just finished our last big family lunch and some of my OHs family have left in tears. Tbh I didn't know they felt that strongly about our move to Oz but when I heard they've hardly ever left this tiny island we live in then I can start to understand.

My OHs Grandma wouldn't speak to us throughout lunch and we had to force a hug off her when she left.

Anyone else had teary goodbyes? Any tips for handling these situations? I fear I may come across as a bit emotionless as these type of events don't tend to affect me.

If you want to generate a bit of emotion, you could always have a quick look at my old avatar pic. That may generate an emotional response from you.

OH just said he enjoyed today.....he usually hates family meals....take from that what you will....I think the wrinkles felt it was more of a final goodbye...but I said to Grandma (different Grandma) we will put pics up on FB and FaceTime...she said "But I don't know how!" and Aunty Carol said she would show her and as she'll be living with her it won't be a problem.

hugs hugs and more hugs Lou x

It sounds like that might be the worst one over esp. as they have never left the island.

Our 'not speaking to us Grandma' has only been off island twice in her 80 odd year life...once for hospital treatment and a weekend in Poole....she had to obtain a provisional driving licence for the trip having never had a passport and having never driven in her life! So, I suppose unless we are planning a trip back to Jersey within the next few years, in her mind it is a final goodbye

I'd quite happily skip the goodbyes. I've got a horrible feeling that Rich's parents have booked into the same hotel as us the night before our flight :0(

How were your children? I can't imagine seeing family upset like that was easy. Have you got lots more goodbyes to do, or have you opted for one big one? X

The kids were fine...our family hid their upset from them...tbh the family held there heads high but I spotted there were a few tears when they were outside the restaurant. Generally, it was a lovely lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We have a few more to go yet....a big do next weekend with 150 coming! Then a night out with our drinking buddies and finally work leaving drinks. Then it's over to the UK to do it all again

I'm at the end of my goodbyes, had a party last night and said goodbyes to my friends and extended family today - I didn't expect to cry but boy I did!

I'm leaving tomorrow and flying in the evening, so only a few more to go. I feel so drained my whole body feels like it's been through the wringer!

Good luck for the journey and enjoy a good rest on the plane!
