<Dan>
Evening all, We look like we finally have a buyer for our garage, so things are starting to move forward. So we are looking to emigrate in Oct / Nov / Dec. We have a few options, given money is going to be tight! 1) I fly over to Perth and stay with a mate, look for a house for the family to rent. Fly back to the UK and collect said family. 2) As above, but stay there and let the wife with three kids attempt to make it 10,000 miles on their own. 3) Try and organize a house from the UK and move right in, although furniture wont be there for several weeks 4) All fly over, rent a holiday home for a week or two whilst looking for a house. We don't know whats best. I am happy to go over first, but not happy to leave the wife and kids to make it all the way there on their own. If I fly back, then extra money, if we rent a holiday home, its extra money... HELP!!!!
Sideshowdeb
Hi Gridstar, We're off to Perth at the end of July and we've opted for number 3. We found a fully furnished place with Ozhouserentals for the first month we're there and it's pretty much the same price as we've set as our budget for a long term rental, so we could have booked for longer. I was really surprised by how reasonably priced some of the holiday lets are. We've decided to ship what we are sending early so it will be there in time for us to move into a long term rental. That way as soon as we move out of the holiday let, we'll have all our belongings. I'm hoping that will help the kids settle more quickly. We'll manage for the last couple of months here because we can borrow stuff from family and friends, while we camp in our empty house. It's difficult to decide what's best, but we always knew we wanted to go together. There's pros and cons to each of your options so I hope it works out for you whichever you choose. <Dan>
Thanks Deb, Good thinking although as my wife just pointed out, we will also be looking to get the kids enrolled in schools which might be a little awkward if in a holiday home. Although this has given us a few ideas. Thanks, Dan
fifi69
Can't help with options!! Never an easy one to make. You might want to consider though, that if your arriving in Dec then its in the high season re holiday lets. ie Sideshow Deb arriving winter time, so low season prices, Dec could be double the price. Also rental agents will close for two weeks over Xmas. best of luck
<Dan>
Hoping to go from Mid Oct to very early Dec to enable time to enroll in schools, but we dont know how long this could take yet. But yes, I see your point about December time being more costly!
verystormy
The first thing is you need to check your visa in case there are any restrictions stating you must all arrive together. Some do have this. I wouldn't worry too much about your wife and kids traveling without you.
