Hi there,

A bit of background about myself and the reason for this post. Firstly i work in the oil and gas indursty and had always planned to emmigrate from the UK to Australia before I was 30 (just something I decided from a young age). I visited the country last year to meet my girlfriend, who was in the process of travelling the world, and we spent 5 weeks travelling the east coast. I loved every minute of it and realise that Perth is quite far but im assuming the culture is very much the same.

I have been involved with a job application process for the past 8 months which would see me join a well known Oil company in a staff role with a 457 visa. All aspects of the move would be taken care of.

I am 26 and ask the forum members for their opinions on living in Perth and whether they believe it is a good move? As you can imagine now the job application process appears to be drawing to an end with a strong possibility of a job offer I want to make absolute certain I'm making the right choice.

The job is a fantastic career move with a salary in the region of $200,000-240,000 so I believe i would be more than equipped to arrive and sort accommodation. I just want to know what the lifestyle is like.

Any repsonses would bre greatly appreciated.

Hi and Welcome, Perth is relatively quite compared to places like Melbourne and Sydney. A lot of young people love it - there's a club scene in Northbridge and Fremantle and certainly when we've been going home from the city at midnight some are just heading in there. Perth is very laid back, but I'm sure that if you can get in with a group of similar ages to yourself then it'll have a lot to offer.

Hello from another ex Boro Boy.

Perth is actually very different to the east coast and a different culture. We lived in Sydney prior to Perth and Sydney is much more like London - busy, arty and things. Perth is much more laid back. In the begining people can find Perth a bit frustrating - there is good reason it is often said WA means "wait awhile". But once you get used to that, it is a great place and you just need to chill out and go with the flow.

Perth isn't as big as the east coast cities but does have a good bar and club scene.
