Shipping House Contents or Not?

Hi, we are from Ontario, Canada. Wish to move to Australia. Can anyone else from the Toronto area that has moved to Australia help us out? We were wondering if it is worthwhile to ship our house contents or start from scratch? I would personally like to take everything with. If you can let us know your experience shipping your items, and recommend a company that was trustworthy?

Also, how much does it cost?

How long does it take?

What do you do in the meantime, do you stay in a hotel or a short term rental I guess? (Till your items arrive).

I can't really help on shipping just yet as we've just started out but from reading a few posts on here a lot of people get a holiday let for the first few weeks then look for a long term rental, someone will pop up soon to let you know.

But like you I still worry about what to take,everything or just keep sakes. I'd like to take more for the children to help settle them but I also think will you ever replace what you leave behind we have so much stuff lol

Thanks. I know, it would be nice to have some things familiar for the kids especially. When you start totalling up everything in the house, it's going to be a lot to replace everything. Good luck to you too! Keep me posted.

I'd be surprised if anyone on here has shipped Canada to Perth. You might be better just giving a few shippers a call and getting a couple of quotes for a 20 foot and 40 foot container. We managed to fit our contents we wanted to ship into a 20 foot container. We were initially told we had too much stuff but we barely filled 2/3rds of the container. A 20 foot container takes about 1050 square foot but that's every nook and cranny filled.
