P.D
Hi All, I have recently received my PR as HR Adviser under sub class 190. As I plan my move, I need to know most importantly whether there's scope for migrants to get HR jobs in Perth/Australia. I have read many testimonials on various websites that migrants have really struggled to get HR jobs because they did not possess Australian experience. Can someone please advise if they observed the same trend and if I should be cautious about this... Many Thanks PD 9873724419
walvia
I came as an HR Advisor as well and struggled to even get interviews for HR jobs, talk more of the job itself. I'd advise you to keep an open mind and be open to whatever opportunities come your way. I started by "dumbing down" my CV to be for administration focused. Got my first job as a receptionist 2 weeks after I arrived and sort of went up the ladder from there. I currently work in Recruitment and I've been in Perth for about 11 months now. It is hard at the moment - job wise but not impossible to get a job. Just come with enough money to sustain yourself and keep an open mind. Good luck
P.D
Hey thanks, guess that's the best way to get your foot into the door. Can't help but compare that possibility with the current comfort zone i am in- butagain i know that's not a good idea- but does freak me out a bit that non tech filks like us really have to struggle more
P.D
Hey Walvia, I'mcoming back with more questions as i continue my job search. People say they find most of the HR-like jobs through contacts, particularly because HR is a support function and employers don't want to pay recruitment firms really. So, how did you go about looking for jobs to begin with and did you get the first job through a rec. agency? Also, would you know any company/ professionals in your network that may be looking for remuneration and benefits folks, because that's my area of experience... Thanks! walvia
Hi P.D, sorry I'm just seeing this. (I wonder why one doesn't get email notifications any time an active thread has been responded to). Anyway, I didn't get any of my jobs through contacts as I knew no one in Perth when I arrived and still somewhat know no one. I'm still trying to find my feet like you but grateful I have a job at the moment. I got my first gig through an agency and I have been using the same one ever since. For me, it is important to follow my assignments through so I have a very good relationship with the recruiters who manage to find me a job - no matter how short the contract is. Also, try to exhaust all avenues in your job search - jobsearch, seek, linkedin and even gumtree. You can pm me if you have any other inquiries
portlaunay
Hi P.D, sorry I'm just seeing this. (I wonder why one doesn't get email notifications any time an active thread has been responded to). Likely because the default setting in your profile has not been set for you to automatically subscribe to threads. You can either go to 'Settings' at the top of the page, then under 'My Account' in the sidebar to the left select 'General Settings' and then change the drop down 'Default Thread Subscription Mode:' to whatever suits. Alternatively, if you only wish to subscribe to a particular thread then in the bar above the first post you should see 'Thread Tools' in bold. Click on this and you'll have an option to subscribe to just that particular thread.
