SKIPPY59
Just returned from Perth. We did a reccie of Perth, Fremantle, Rockingham - but can't work in these areas due to restrictions on 489 visa. So we looked at Mandurah, Busellton, Bunbury, Margaret River, Albany and liked what we saw. We didn't get across to Kalgoorlie so wondered what its like to live/work there? Look forward to hearing from you all. Cheers
verystormy
Kal is a smallish mining town a short plane ride from Perth. It is ok, though can be a bit rough around the edges - its full of miners. So bars are prone to being what we call skimpy bars which are basically bars that the people behind the bar are young pretty girls with not a lot of clothes on - though i believe they recently stopped them being topless. I used to stay the odd night regularly and have to say it isnt some where i would chose to live. It gets blisteringly hot in summer as it is in the desert and pretty cold in winter. It is expensive to live and even groceries are price hiked because there isnt a lot of choice. It was until recently a boom town because of the mining boom, but is now suffering increasing unemployment and the main employer in town is a mine called Super Pit - a massive open pit litrally on the edge of town - kick a ball out of your back garden over the fence and it is lost. The Super Pit is now winding down as it is close to end of mine life. As a construction site manager i would not think there would be a huge demand for your skills and likewise a secretary. What did you think of the other places you visited? I am in Mandurah and alsways interested with what people think of it.
