paul_b
Hi All, In 2010 I spent a year living and working in Perth under the Working holiday visa program. I am now back in the UK after another year of travel in 2011 and from 2012 to date been back working in the UK as a professional. I am 27 and working as a sales manager in engineering. I have an engineering degree and a good CV. I have been in touch with a perth based migration agent who has assessed my suitability for migration on an initial basis and said that it looks positive, but they require $190 before they will complete a thorough assessment detailing my options. From my own research and understanding, I may struggle to get approval until I have a minimum of 3 years work experience, which I currently could probably claim a maximum of 2 years. Which is why I am reluctant to proceed with the detailed report from the migration agent. My other question, myself and girlfriend would like to book a holiday to Perth late 2014, has anyone ever come for a long holiday, and done some job hunting and been offered employer sponsorship whilst on a holiday visa? I know this is not technically the correct and legal process, but I have heard no response from any of the jobs that I have applied for - my thoughts being that I am applying from overseas and unable to interview e.t.c. Look forward to any help and advise. Regards, P.
verystormy
I think you need to decide a stratergy. Firstly, i can not recomend coming over as a tourist and looking for a job - it is illegal and as you have already spent a year here, they will probably have a bigger look at you than normal. Any indication you are considering looking for work would see you turned around and banned from Oz for 3 years. If you have been using a good registered migration agent who says things are positive, then i would pay the money. There are exceptions to the amount of experience you need and i believe engineering degrees may be one. Compared to the costs of even getting the visa, that is a tiny amount of money With your level of experience, i would say it would be very difficult to get a job before having pr and living in Oz. Even if you did, you need to be aware that sponsored visas are normally temporary and come with a number of restrictions. Your other issue is that you mention your girlfriend - simple girlfriends can not be added to a visa you apply for or granted. She must be a de facto - ie effectivly in a man / wife relationship except for the bit of paper. They will require evidence of this.
paul_b
Thanks for your quick reply. VStormy. I did think that the tourist, job seeking route was not feasible and your feedback has confirmed my thoughts as to this approach. The agent is MARA and legitimate, with offices in Perth. That is an interesting point with regards to engineering degrees potentially requiring a lesser amount of experience, I wonder if anyone else here can confirm this, or shed further light ? With regards to my girlfriend, I believe we would have a strong case for a de-facto application. Thanks for pointing this out though. Many thanks again,
paul_b
One other pathway that has been mentioned to me is that of setting up my own business and sponsoring myself. I have been told that this is not a well known but potentially successful path if others are not appropriate. Has anyone here used this particular migration route? verystormy
Yes, that is possible. But it is a VERY complex area - well off the reams of this board and even some migration agents will be nervous of it. It is also VERY costly - you need a very large sum of money. It would be one to speak with Go Matilda about. Alan there is an expert on this particular area. As i say though, if the agent you are using is a registerd MARA agent, then i still think your best option is to pay your money and go through your options once you know all the criteria available to you
paul_b
Thanks again, I will make an enquiry with Gomatilda as well as the agent I am currently in talks with to get a second opinion on things. As soon as I have any further information on our progress I will post up any details in case it is helpful for anybody else. All the best to all!
