Hi paul! Sounds like me! Moved to england when i was 20, spent almost ten years there, been in perth almost a year now.

having lived in the uk i think there may be a few more saffas on here than you think ali! Most people might not count a lot of us as saffas anymore. Most people have no idea where i am from as my accent is so mixed now :)

Another South African here. I moved to the UK 11 years ago and have been here ever since. I miss the outdoor lifestyle I had growing up as a kid/teenager and really hope I can give that to my two young boys with a move to Perth...if I ever pass this damn IELTS test!

Hi GMAC, when we decided to make the move, people told me Perth was like Durban 30 years ago. So I thought, if I can give my child the childhood I had, why wouldn't I do it! We are loving it here, dont get me wrong its hard, especially in the beginning, and you work much harder here, but the weekends are just fab! Good luck with your test next time :)

I'm not a Saffa as such, my folks emigrated to RSA when I was 18 months old from the UK , I grew up in a small mining town north of Johannesburg, we left after 10 years when I was 12 back to the UK where I finished my schooling and an apprenticeship, after 10 years I applied to emigrate to USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand & South Africa, told my then girlfriend & now wife, who ever comes back first we go, well South African came back first as I turned out to be a naturalised citizen & actually didn't have to jump through all the hoops, so off we went and stayed happily in Midrand for 10 years, had two beautiful kids & a wonderful life, then it all turned to poo, we packed up and returned back to the UK for 10 years, but I missed the outdoor life & especially the sun, so here we are in Sunny Perth for at least 10 years & loving it, so basically I have spent half my life so far in RSA & half in the UK, now let's see if I can add Aus :)
