portlaunay
Hey Neil, I can't help with Geraldton I'm afraid, I've only made it as far north as Lancelin. According to Google maps Geraldton is almost five hours from Perth so if you've never been here it probably won't be indicative of the kind of life a lot of expats have. I imagine it's incredibly beautiful and have a very small town feel which can have benefits and pitfalls. Basing yourself there for just six months and then going through the upheaval of moving so far south will present some particular challenges for you all but then again you may love life there and look to stay. Sorry, that's all pretty predictable and not very helpful, I hope someone with first hand experience can advise soon enough.

glenvin
Hi Mate Been to Gero ( as we call it here ) a few times on my way up to Ningaloo. Its quite a nice town pretty in places not so pretty in others. If it was somewhere that you were going to be based permanently I would be telling you to rethink your plans but if it is only going to be for 6 months or more than go for it. The whole point is to get your foot in the door and then decide what's best for you as in the grand scheme of things 6 months is nothing and will go over so fast. You may even love Gero and decide you want to stay there as everyone wants different lifestyles and someones cup of tea may not be an others. Good luck

elfie
Have been to Geralton - bear in mind it is a long way from any where. It is also very very windy. On the up thought there is a lot of development going on there presently. Has all the amenities that you will need for daily life -its not that isolated. The sea front is being developed and is looking good so far. Personally I could live there but then I am not a night life bunny. A family from our village back home relocated there from Mckay which they did not like or could not settle they were there for 2 years. Now in Geralton they have settled right in and the children love it so horses for course so to speak.
Guest guest9824
Like Elfie, we have friends who are from Geraldton but born and bred there, now live in Perth, they go back to visit often, and say it's having a bit of a baby boom, so new schools will be in the pipeline, as the population grows, and the town gets a much needed infrastructure boost. Never been myself, only driven past that way on our way to Kalbarri many moons ago. Sounds like a good plan having a contract for 6 months, in that time you will no doubt find out if it's for you or not. Best of luck. pea
odies
Hi, just spoken to my son , he reckons very easy to put up with for 6 months. Its a a nice little town still has the feel of an outback town , but is growing a lot it now has a mcdonalds. The port is very big with large iron ore ships leaving for China. Very windy but could easily spend time on beach with the children.
