Having a panic!

As I type my hubby is sitting his Technical Interview for his joinery skill assessment. I've had a particularly stressful weekend and with this on top I'm actually feeling a little sick with anxiety. He called me on the way to Manchester to say he's stuck at Stockport and the satnav has re-calculated his journey to say he wasn't going to make it. Thankfully he got through the traffic and it then decided he would get there in time. I was coping ok until then! I don't seem to be able to concentrate on anything to take my mind off it. I so hate this feeling :(

Thanks for the positive words - that's exactly what I need right now. I think I'm definitely having one of those days where I'm feeling a little vulnerable and need some reassurance (and I have a feeling I'm going to be needing lots of wine by the end of the day!).

He's all done now anyway and thinks it went well, phew! I think it was the panic that he wasn't going to get there on time that did it.

Looks like I'll be back to logging on to the Vetassess website twice daily checking for results lol

Thanks again, I'm feeling marginally calmer now xxxxx

Feeling much better now, thanks. I had a truly awful week and that was just one of many things. To be honest I felt a lot better as soon as I heard from him to say he was out and it went ok. It takes 10 working days to get the result so only another week to wait. Fingers crossed! Tbh we're more worried about the dreaded IELTS than the skill assessment but hey ho, only another week until he re-sits that as well. It certainly keeps you on your toes!

Hope you're ok hun xx

hi there, my husband is a joiner and went through all of this last year. We now have our visa and you will soon be in the same position I'm sure! Do you have a login to check his results online? We waited a week and then I remember we had an online login and I checked and it said passed on there. Just a tip to see if you can find out a little earlier. Good luck with it all xx

Thanks for the tip. I've already been logging in every morning and night, it still says 'in progress' atm. I'm keeping everything crossed we get a positive result on Monday.

When are you hoping to get over there Raychelsb and will you have jobs lined up? We're still aiming for September but not sure if we'll make it. The biggest thing I'm worrying about it not having any jobs to go to.

Hi there, fingers crossed for you then this week. We were hoping to be over there about July time but we need to either get jobs or sell the house and having no luck with either! We have both been short listed for jobs but no one has been interested when they know we are still in the uk, they want you in perth straightaway. My husband is now applying for fifo which we didn't really want him to do but as the money is good it is an option for him to go out first and save some money up for me to follow. We've looked at renting our property too but struggling getting a buy to let mortgage, our current mortgage holder HSBC won't offer it. So we are fed up and frustrated now as we just want to get there! We have until December to validate our visa. X

What a difficult and frustrating situation to be in! Will HSBC not just give you permission to rent your home out on your current mortgage? I feel for you xx We decided to put our house on the market late last year thinking it may take 6+ months to sell and were astounded when it sold in just 2 weeks. We weren't expecting that at all so it threw us for a while. I think it may be the visa grant itself that will hold us up. I've heard they've slowed right down at the moment as they're reaching their yearly quotas but I'm keeping everything crossed they catch up quickly once the new year hits on 1st July. I'd be happy to get a grant in July but anything after that will certainly be cutting it fine for us!

How is your hubby getting on exploring the fifo options as a joiner? I'd heard it can be difficult to get in to and that you need various tickets etc. As a result we haven't really considered it as a viable option but it'd be something we'd certainly considered.

Well he's got his white card which he did online and over the phone after we got the visa, not sure what else he needs, we have friends in perth and one works fifo and he got on easily, in fact he is sponsored. But demand for those jobs is high so no success as yet. We are going to just plod along, maybe go stay with friends later in the year to validate the visa and just move permanently when we finally sell the house. I will keep you posted and good luck to u too x

Good luck, I've got my ielts test on Saturday also, it's a nightmare going through this but be worth it when were sunning it up everyday! My skill assessment went in 6 weeks ago and just waiting to hear from the TRA. I'm a gas fitter here in the U.K and have my wife and 3 year old girl and a highly strung jack russel all itching to get out there. This is my second ielts test but I feel much more confident about taking the test this time around I scored a 7 overall but got a couple of 6.5 so just missed out, also had a few lessons with a tutor so hopefully I've cracked it this time around!

where is ur IELTS? My hubby is off to Burton this time. He REALLY didn't want to have to do it again. As he was only 0.5 off in the writing part we've also applied for his last test to be remarked but it takes 6-8weeks! We'll get the result of the new test before the remarked results of the old one. Like the majority of this process I find it particularly frustrating! Oh well.

how long are TRA currently taking to complete an assessment? Do you have to do a practical assessment as a gas fitter? It makes it considerably cheaper if you don't! I'll keep everything crossed for both your skill assessment and your IELTS. Good luck!!

Thanks for the luck, ill need all the help I can get, I've got my test in liverpool just want it out the way now it's a bit of a money spinner when you way up the cost of each test but its got to be done, as far as I'm aware I don't have to complete a practical test as I've been in this job for 15years, and only have to complete a gap course once I arrive to get my licences , This time next year we will all be there and should be over this ordeal to gain a nice new way of life! Sorry my TRA check has taken 6 weeks so far still with no news?

My hubby has been a joiner for 20 years but a practical assessment or technical interview is the 2nd part of the skill assessment for his occupation (requirements varies depending upon occupation), lucky us eh!

I agree about the IELTS being a money spinner! Saturday will be the third time for us but you're right, in no time at all we will be there soaking in our new lives and it'll all be a distant memory! Can not come soon enough imo

Let me know how you get on with your IELTS x

Had my IELTS today thought it went quiet well but we will have to see a week Friday when we get the results, hope your husband felt he had a positive day too, hopefully 1 step closer to the dream hey!

Pleased you're feeling positive, it's got to be a good sign. My husband is feeling very unsure. I'm hoping it's just his confidence that makes him not feel good about it this time and that the results show he did ok but only time will tell I suppose. It's so difficult to tell! If you keep hold of your candidate number you can check online in 13 days for some IELTS centres instead of waiting for the postman. And boy will that 13 days drag!

Everything is firmly crossed for us both. I sooooooooooooo want it to be ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, I was just wondering if you had, had an e mail from ielts telling you your results will be delayed. As I has one yesterday, I really hope they come through today at some point the waiting is killing us. I wish you luck and really hope we get the marks we need fingers crossed.
