Paul from Staffs
Hi, myself and Linda my wife are looking to apply for Contributory Parent visas within the next 2-3 months, we would love to hear from anyone who is doing likewise or has gone through the process and can offer any advice. We are looking at applying for the Temporary Subclass 173 visa first as that will give us 2 yrs to find our feet in Oz before applying for the expensive Subclass 143. Our son is a Police officer in Perth and recently married so they are willing to be our sponsor. We have so many questions and would appreciate any advice or chat with members of this very informative site. Thanks Paul & Linda

Steely
Hi Paul & Linda, myself and Karen are at a similiar stage to you, and have had some great advice from this forum. We are about to take the plunge, and were also not sure wether to go 173 then 143, but having spoken to Matt fro Go Matilda (advice from the forum was for these agents, or go it alone, fees seem reasonable, in the scheme of the total package) we were advised that if you can afford to go for the 143, then do so..........we are still not 100% sure which way to go, but will be applying in the next fed days (we think!!) This is the link to the thread from our initial question if you want to see the advice we received http://www.perthpoms.com/forum/migration-issues/15211-parent-visa-migration-company.html
Lou8670
My MIL applied for the 143 temporary contributory parent visa last September. She went for the temporary as she could afford the fees without having to sell her house. She didn't want to sell until she knew she could get a visa as it would be difficult to get back what she has where we live. She's not on this forum but I've held her hand with her application so happy to let you know what we did during the process. We haven't used an agent and she's currenty awaiting a case officer. DIAC told her to complete her Pcc checks and medicals approximately 12 months after acknowledging her application. Good luck! Lou

Paul from Staffs
hi thanks for the reply, were going to fill in the forms and apply nxt cpl days, think were going to go alone without an agent as the costs just keep adding up
odies
we have been doing it ourselves, not much bother it is the waiting and hoping to pass the medical that is the most stressful. We have 2 grandsons there ,we went over for both births and to help even though all DIL family are there all 10 of them plus the children, we get on really well , hopefully no bad MIL stories. Paul from Staffs
no we are going to apply nxt cpl of days, how come you went for the 143 straight away, were going to apply for the 173 i think as that allows us to spread the cost, our son is a policeman over in mandurah and our first grandchild is due in Dec, we both want to move this year but cant because of these bloody visas lol
odies
forgot to say it is 12 to 18 months to eventually get the visa.
odies
We looked into both and decided we are selling everything so get it over and done with, plus you pay the amount it states when you lodge the visa, it seems to go up and up , and I did not want to go through more form filling. We have visited numerous times ,so know what we are going to and have no worries

My mils going for the temp as she doesn't want to sell her house until she knows whether she can get the visa and she can't raise enough funds without selling for the permanent visa. Dolphin
Hi Paul and Linda we lodged our 143 on 1 April this year. Have been told it will take 12to18 months to get visa. We are in process of selling our house so we can go into rented accom to wait till visa is approved. We have two daughters in Perth and 3 grandchildren as well as a 10yr old at home with us. We are hoping to work when we get there. We are in our fifties.
Steely
We are taking a similar approach to Dolphin it seems. House on the market now, then when sold, move into rented. Money saving move for us too, as late on mortgage market and so high mortgage payments, so this will help us save a bit as we wait. Both of us also in the 50's age band. (Karen wont be happy I posted that bit.....lol) We have lodged our visa start of June, although with our acknowledgment email confirming the 1st payment had been taken, we had this message - "Due to the high volume of applications received, we are currently taking approximately 4 months to register an application and send the acknowledgement letter. The formal acknowledgement of the application will be sent as soon as possible. As applications are considered based on the lodgement date, the delay in registering the application will not affect the processing time for a decision on the application. odies
so Steeley are you looking at 20/22 months to get the visa ?
Lou8670
My MIL lodged 2 September 2013. It's going to be very interesting as to when she gets a case officer allocated as rumour has it it's taking 21/22 months and not the 12 months originally planned or the 16 months they advised her (in a standard automated response) when she asked them to confirm if there a delay last week. odies
Just how I feel, seems like those just putting in for the 143 are going to take longer. But me and your MIL maybe ok . Time will tell.
Steely
so Steeley are you looking at 20/22 months to get the visa ? No apparently this doesn't affect the normal 12-18 months expectations apparently.

Someone on PIO has just had their visa issued and they lodged in January 2013...they said it took exactly 17 months.

Paul from Staffs
Hi, thanks for the post, we submitted our visas via our son, he posted them by courier from Perth to the visa office. They were signed for on June 15th so far we haven't had any acknowledgement and the 1st payment hasn't been taken yet, hopefully that will happen soon and we will be charged the amount that was showing in June 2014 prior to any price increases they may make this month. Not considered selling house yet but that may change, was looking at taking a new 2yr fixed rate that will considerably reduce monthly payment. PS we are both 50 , life begins now an all that lol
