Nutnudger
Hi all, I’m hoping that one of you may know the answer to this one as I just cannot find any info that makes it clear Under the direct access scheme you can apply for PR if you meet the criteria:- have your skills assessed by the relevant authority in Australia, and have been employed in the occupation for at least 3 years be offered a role with guaranteed earnings of $180,001 or more (I do meet at least one of these LOL) The question is, is there anything to stop me from asking my company to go for the PR under the direct access now I have been in AU for 18 months, it’s just that if I can do it now I have a very good chance of work paying for the visa if I wait until the end of the year I may have to pay for the PR myself. Thanks for any help you can give
verystormy
The other option would be to do a normal PR appication not sponsored by the company such as a 189 or
Guest guest10912
If you meet the criteria and the employer is willing, then of course you can apply for it. Why would you not be able to?
Nutnudger
Thanks for the replies. We have three options - this one via direct access, wait till Jan 15 (2 years in country) and get the company to sponsor normally under the 457 or apply for a spouse visa as wife (Australian) and children both hold Australian and British passports which should go straight to PR as been together for 10 years. Chook
Surely a Spouse Visa is the best option. Easier, cheaper and quicker.
Nutnudger
Surely a Spouse Visa is the best option. Easier, cheaper and quicker. It is the cheaper option if we have to pay for it, but it is also the longest with a current wait time to turn the visa around of 18 months. So what exactly is your dilemma here? I really don't get it.
Hopeful
Is the question money/ cost vs time? i think I have seen a thread on here which said you do not have to wait 2 years on your 457 to get your employer to sponsor you for pr? can anyone verify? Your employer can sponsor you at any time, if you have worked for them for 2 years, you don't have to do a skills test I believe, applying before the two years and you would need to do it. Nutnudger
Sorry guys I don’t seem to have been clear on what i was asking. the question was more about could I move from a 457 to DA without waiting for the 2 years to close out, Thanks for all the reply’s
elfie
Yes nutnudger you can, but you have to do the skills assessment. But it all hangs that your employer will nominated you.
Stefan
Correct, I've looked at this too as we are initially coming out on a 457 and looking at Direct Stream and as long as you have a skills assessment for the job and you meet the English language requirements (from an English speaking country or score 6 on all four IELTS) you can apply at any time. Stef You do not have to do the IELTS if you are already here on a 457 moving to direct access and from an English speaking country. You only have to do a skills test if you have been working for employer for less than 2 years.
Stefan
That's what I said regarding the English language side of it, and yes as per comment above, two years or skills assessment.
Tata
You need to score minimum 60 points to apply for 190 visa. The points can calculate on the basis of experience, worked in Australia one year (5 points), IELTS (10 points) etc. Etc
