Sam8071
Hi Im very new to this and am coming to the Perth area in June from the UK. Do i sell my Mini Copper SD in the UK or do i bring it with me to Australia. Ive tried speaking to mini and they haven't been very helpful really. The SD model isn't one which is currently done in Australia, but i have been told there would be no issues with servicing etc. its a 2012 plate. Does anyone have any experience of this who could advise?

Lou8670
Decided to sell mine as it wasn't going to be worth bringing it with the cost of importing and what we could get for it in the UK using current exchange rates.

I brought mine, it's a 2009 cooper convertible, it was worth £10k in the UK here it's worth 30k dollars, it wasn't that expensive or a big problem with paperwork, but you need to make your mind up soon as it takes ages to get a import permit, and you have plans on coming in June
odies
has anyone used iron lady ? and on reading their packages which have you used ? and is the process filling in the forms really bad ? and dealing with Canberra is that really bad ? I take it iron lady does all this on their best package only it reads assist , I am thinking you are still doing it ? Do you then just put it in the container with your furniture ? Sorry for so many questions

owl
You can import it yourself very easily. We did all the paperwork for my husband's scooters. Just read the online guidance, once you have grasped it you can't believe how much iron lady charges for something so simple. With the car, you will have to pay various taxes which can be quite pricey, get the air con degassed and I think get the speedo changed to kilometres. Minis are not that common or as sought after here so if you were ever thinking about selling it in Perth, you may not get as much for it. Also, a lot of people don't like imports and I also think you may struggle or pay more to get insurance. We had a mini and sold it and were glad we did - it seems to be a completely different car market here to the uk. I think the rule of thumb for bringing your car is if it is significantly more expensive here or if it is a classic and of sentimental value. Druid
hi thanks, i understand all the should i shouldnt i, I just wondered if anyone had actually used iron lady and found it worth while. thanks again I looked at using them and spoke to them, decided it wasn't that hard and did it all myself, saved me a shed load of cash and glad I did, the only thing I had to do was change my MPH speedo only to KMH, but I did this in the UK which again saved me a whole load of cash, check to see if your speedo reads MPH & KMH if it does it will be acceptable, you don't need to degas your aircon, all modern cars now have environmentally friendly freon and had have for a good few years, Mini's in Perth are selling for way above UK prices, I had no issues insuring it, google carsales.com.au and see how much your mini is worth, Mini Australia has all the models just under slightly different names, in the UK mine is a Cooper Convertible in Aus they call it a Cabriolet, absolutely no different from the Aus model, when I had mine inspected for road worthiness the inspector said this was the first one he had done, when he read up on it in his official journal, it stated ' No differences ' all he had to check was the speedo, as in 2009 they changed from duel marked to MPh for the UK model only, fortunately Mini UK in Chester warned me about this and I booked it in for the change, you can't do it yourself as they have to reprogram it. Minis are growing in popularity here in perth, the V8's are a dying breed.

Sam8071
Thanks for this, I have been in contact with Iron Lady Imports, and am in the process of getting all my paperwork together. Mini Perth not so helpful if I'm honest, said not to bother, but I suspect he thinks he'll sell me a new car. Mini Bolton again not too helpful with the change in speedo thing, they clearly have never done it, so I'll contact the Chester dealership and see what they can do for me. Thanks to everyone who's replied, much appreciated. If it's duel marked you won't need to change it, it took Chester mini a week to get a KMH marked speedo.
