Bricklayers - any options?

Hey, my partner (a brickie) and I are currently in Perth on a WHV which is sadly coming to an end. He had been told all along by his employer he would get sponsored but now the employer has had a change of heart :(

Bricklayer is no longer on the SOL list and I dont think he will be able to find someone to sponser him.

Anyone any advice on what we could do? Any brickies been through something similiar or found another way to stay? Or even if anyone knows of a brickie that might be willing to help out?

Thanks

D

Have checked other state lists and but unfortunately they aren't possible for him for different reasons.

Yes there definitely seems to be a shortage. No problem getting work. Just hard to find a company to hire on TFN for sponsorship and even harder for employer nomination on ABN. My partners even willing to pay it himself. Just have to cross our fingers and hope it all works out.

If anyone knows any brickies out there that might be able to give him some guidance it would be much appreciated. Cheers

Hi dannikins. Hope you and your partner manage to get something sorted. Is there no chance of you being sponsored by your employer?

I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread, but as my hubby is a brickie it would be really helpful to know what the job situation in like over in Perth from someone there already. Is it easy to get work, what's the pay like, what's the hours? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, and good luck.

As far as I can see, plenty of work for brickies.

my daughter works for a well known house builder in Perth and they are always struggling to get brickies.

but just a head up, and I hope this is allowed, but there is a certain FB group for "poms in Perth" and a couple of hours ago a member posted about needing brickies and offering sponsorship.

disclosure....I do not know this person or company or have anything to do with them. It was a post that has come up on my newsfeed and I am passing on.

Hi Springfield. Its no problem. Really easy to get work as a brickie. Plenty of it here.

They do tend to prefer WA experience so if you dont have it they seem to start of on a lower wage - my fella started on $32 p/h and then obv it can go up. Hes self employed. Hours depend on the job. He was working on the new childrens hospital and had 12hour days / 6 days a week. Before that he was on apartment blocks and now hes on houses - both 8 hour days with 1 sat off a month. Dont have to work sats if he doesnt want.

When are u coming over?

Thanks fifi i will get onto fb and have a look.

Hopefully we get something sorted. Not ready to go home.

Hi, new on here - i know of one small company on housing sites always looking and currently growing - mainly all pom bricklayers -- however, like most small companies they generally employ everyone on self employed basis and they not always the best at the paperwork side of things -- however - willing to pass guys number over on a private message as don't want him inundated with zillion calls - Though housing currently flat out looking for bricklayers the commercial side has been pretty dire in my experience over the last year / and compared to 2006/7 when last working here.
