wendydenny
I am currently in Perth on a holiday visa and have seen a migrant officer about migrating out here, the best way is to get a sponsorship as a cook. I have been applying for these type of jobs but they are asking me to start work straight away and then start the visa process. Does anyone know the best way of going about this and does anyone know of a reputable sponsorship company.
verystormy
The first thing to remember is that if you are going to go down the sponsored route, you need an employer who is will and able to sponsor - not every business can. You also need to check that your occupation is on either the SOL or CSOL list as even for sponsored visas it has to be on one of them. Next, you must understand that sponsored visas are usually temporary - for up to 4 years and should you lose your job during that time you have 90 days to find an employer who can take over the visa or leave the country. There is no company that can do this for you. You need to find a job with a company that is willing to sponsor You should also be aware that applying for jobs while on a tourist visa is illegal. STEVE P
We hd been looking for a sponsor from the UK for years without success. Came across in 2011 for holiday & set up job interviews & altho no offers a company I had spoken with contacted me 3 mths later to see if still interested. They flew me back across for another interview & offered job with 457 visa arranged. I would recommend contact as many companies while here as not taken seriously from the UK, I suppose a lot have tried from back home then got cold feet (its not as easy once you are selling your belongings to move 8000 miles) so at least that in Australia shows some commitment. wendydenny
Thanks for that Steve , I am committed that is why I have travelled over here on my own to find work. No luck yet but I'm determined and won't give up
wendydenny
Thanks corn the advice, the migrant officer didn't tell me it was illegal to look for work she only said I couldn't do any trials for future employers.
mossman
Hi, previously I was on holiday in 2006 and went for an informal interview / chat with an agency that had advertised -- met a company that needed me and both of us interested so went via freespirit.com.au whom helped facilitate 457 visa and sponsorship, salary packaging etc etc went back to blightey and within 2 months was back working -- so maybe worth giving them a lookup even tho based over east don't let that put you of As I also eventually used an over east migration agent to assist with a permanent visa application -- all successful etc Enquiring and not necessarily applying for job should be enough of a technical difference so no laws broken good luck in yr search
nikkiwd
Cook is on the CSOL so you need a state or employer to sponsor you. my oh got his pr visa as cook was on Wa's sponsorship list but it was removed last October so Employer nominated is now your only option. Can't help with where to find a sponsor but rural areas might have more of a shortage of cooks therefore places willing to sponsor you. What is your age, is a working holiday visa not an option so you can work while sponsorship is going through?
