where to live ??

when we first started this process, i was planning to live in baldivis near our friends, as far as im aware (not done too much research on it as its still a long way off) baldivis is quite busy with lots of houses / people / schools etc, and this is where we are / were planning to live, however, now im thinking of living out in the sticks, we would love a pool rather than live near the beach. but who knows where we will end up.

so my question is, where did you plan to live ? and when you arrived, did you choose something completely different ?

We stumbled on Leeming very much by chance, I got a job in Armadale and so we drew a circle around it for an approx. 30 min commute - I was going to be working shifts and didn't want a long drive. Found a fully furnished rental in Leeming - had never heard of it, posted on another forum "anyone know anything about Leeming" - got a reply from a lady who turned out to be my first friend here in Aus and she and her family have become firm family friends.

Loved the suburb and bought a house here.

Where you end up living depends a lot on jobs & circumstances, when we arrived my 17YO son fancied a course at Jandakot TAFE! So we though we better live within easy commuting distance of Jandakot, hence we ended up in Harrisdale, a ten minute drive down the quiet back roads, but after all that he ended up getting an Apprenticeship at Perth Airport so there went that theory, I too was working at Perth airport and my wife was working in the city, Harrisdale was fine for commuting to Perth airport, it was straight down the Tonkin highway, the commute into the city wasn't bad either, straight down South street to Murdoch station or even to Cockburn station, but it turned out to be a long way from anywhere, it was always a commute to do anything at any time, we always seemed to be half an hour away in the car, after two years we now live in Burns Beach and it's great, with the exception of the work commute, everything is 5 minutes away, what a difference it makes to your weekends, from Harrisdale going to the Carousel at weekends was frustrating stuck in traffic, no where to park millions of people, now going to Joondalup lakeside or Whitfords city is a pleasure and actually quite enjoyable, so pick your suburb wisely, remember come brushfire season living in the countryside with all the snakes & spiders can be a stressful time

That question creates a lot of pressure. There are some lovely areas but we've decided to base ourselves in Rockingham area as that's where we have family. There are a lot of bogans round here but there are great beaches and it's not as built up as around the city or NoR. However, who knows where we'll end up.

absolutely no idea!!! will all depend on where Tom gets work really, his current commute is 1 1/2 hours and we need to reduce that as much as possible. I love being by the sea- its five mins away here! but we also have a five acre field which is great for the walking the dog in! I know we won't get anything like this near the sea in aus and rather fancy the hills BUT I am a complete arachnophobe and not sure I could cope with the critters in the hills lol!! who knows where we will all end up! Probably somewhere random like Sydney haha.....

where do you fancy cocolevi and when are you hoping to head off??

xx

ps does anyone know how long it would take to get from Yanchep into CBD and how hard it would be whilst there's no trainline?....

Hi Bean, 20 mins approx to Clarkson train station (or a bit longer if you stop off at Dome Butler for a flat white along the way, which I insist of course. You will almost drive right past the door!!) Then it's 40 mins into Perth CBD. Or in a few months you will be able to leave your car at Butler train station instead which by the way is even closer to the cafe... Lol

Ditto Louise!... Rockingham is convinient but the snob in me wants to move somewhere else!!.... Also, Lees daily commute to the airport takes best part of an hour... Would love to halve that?!!... I would love to be near Fremantle but don't think our bank account will allow that just yet?!!! :-D

When we arrived 18months ago, we moved in with my parents in Roleystone (in the hills). We decided that this was where we wanted to buy as the plots are bigger than the flat lands.

We bought a 4 bed plus a granny flat, with a pool (which needs work) on 3/4 acre of bush for our boys to play in. They love being able to run around the backyard, climb the trees (50+ on the block) and build army bases. We are not beach people, but do take the kids and the dog for a dip down in Wanbro and visit family in the process.

thanks for that reply Rob- it looks like it would be further out than that so that's good :-) quite like the idea of living by the lagoon! the houses all seem to be quite new looking - is that correct?

i could drop oh at the station and call in for my morning decaf :cute:

We had a list of places but were very flexible and looked at places in all directions from the city and fairly central, but none of them felt right or were too expensive. We only had 2 weeks as the company had paid for 2 weeks temp accommodation. Day 13 an agent we had viewed some with called to ask if we would be interested a long way out, but semi rural and beach based. We jumped on the train and went to see and moved in the following day. Been in the same place 6 years now and love it enough we are building round the corner. Love that as I write my wife is on the beach with the dog, see Roos every day and have a pool and the beach and it's very pretty - dawesville / southport.
