Matt&beck
So tomorrow I have my IELTS... To say I'm panicking is an understatement! I don't really perform well under pressure. It's the writing that's causing me the worry, some of the subjects I've seen on the practice tests I don't know a thing about and don't know how I would demonstrate good English if I know nothing on what they Are asking! Once I have the necessary 7 I am ready to apply for anmac so I'm feeling pressured to do well! Aargh....

Keith
I've just sat my second IELTS exam last Saturday and the main thing is not to be over confidant, for my first exam I thought it would be a breeze and how wrong I was, the speaking is extremely easy you basically have a chat with a assessor about random subjects like name something you have brought back from a holiday! It's the reading and writing that you should train on, look for key words in the reading questions that will help you to find the answer, as for the writing your letter and essay will have to have a start a middle and an end ,I.e firstly I would like to say, secondly I would like to , and finally I would like to. Also use words like furthermore, nevertheless, similarly ,gradually, whereas. All words like this score extra points. just don't flap get a good breakfast down you and use all the allotted time to check your answers as many times as possible! I had a tutor who specialised in the exam and these were just some of the tips I was given good luck!
Mark Beesley
Just a useful bit on insight knowledge make sure you go to the toilet beforehand as you do your listening, reading and writing all in one sitting this caught me out and had to wait till the reading started. But am sure you will be ok good luck.
Matt&beck
Thank you everyone for the advice, I'm sure it'll be fine really - it's the knowing our future is pinned on it! The sample essay questions are driving me demented, on subjects I know nothing about!!
Hopeful
Demonstrate your range of vocabulary, use of grammer differing connecting words and don't write long sentences and waffling paragraphs. I was also told it was the range and use of language they are looking for not particularly content knowledge. Give a mix of views, facts, comparisons and experiences if you can. Good luck I am sure you ll be fine x Edited May 16, 2014 by Hopeful
Guest guest10912
Thank you everyone for the advice, I'm sure it'll be fine really - it's the knowing our future is pinned on it! The sample essay questions are driving me demented, on subjects I know nothing about!! I know this is a bit late, but they are not interested in your knowledge on a subject. They are interested in your spelling, grammar, sentence construction. Make it up, just get the grammar right!
Matt&beck
Thanks for all your kind words and advice. I'm sooooo glad today is over, here is praying I get all over 7s so I don't have to do it again!!! The listening started off fine, but a man got up and left shouting angrily and making noise in the corridor and I missed 3 of the answers I complained but they wouldn't even play that short bit again. I was furious needless to say. The reading I found fairly hard, it's the not given answers and particularly the name the paragraph sections. The writing (the one worrying me) was absolutely fine!! Anyway, now the 13 day wait begins. Fingers crossed I can get my skills assessment in and press on!
