zoe1922
Hi, I am 41 and my husband is 48 we are moving over from the UK at the end of August, looks like we will be staying in a temporary rental in Joondalup area. We have an 18 year old son who is mad on cars, and a 16 year old daughter who will be going to Senior High School (not sure which one till we arrive though). Only know a couple of people over in Perth area so would love to meet up with anyone with similar age children (coffee or beer!). Anyone moving over around the same time, or even anyone who has been there for a while who can provide us with any advice would be great too!! We are a couple in 40's heading to Joondalup area with 15 yr old and 18 year old girls / we ve also got Grace 8 yr old - and possibly the 18 yr's old boyfriend coming too however ! Hopefully we will be there July/August - we are just waiting for an exchange date on our house so we can get everything booked up. Exciting / scary times coming up : / Are your teens looking forward to it ? Louise x
zoe1922
Hi Louise many thanks for your reply. Would definitely like to meet up. We've moved into a rental house her in the UK for a few months until we go, after our house sale finally went through a few weeks ago so completely understand about the house sale! Yes exciting and very scary all at the same time! We have booked our flights this week. We fly out to Perth on 25 August and have a house to rent for 3 and a half weeks until we get sorted - loads to do when we get there! I've been emailing senior high schools as well for our daughter this week as she is just taking her GCSEs and wanted to do A levels so she will do the equivalent in Oz. Both our two are really looking forward to the move now, our son absolutely can't wait... Let me know how you are getting on with your move/house sale etc and we will keep in touch. Whereabouts are you moving from to Perth? Zoe.x
Hopeful
Hi Zoe and Lou we are heading over in august too I have booked for 26th August, hubby and 14 yr (15 october) old son to follow shortly after. We are in early 50's, in fact I only got there in April! Lol. Going to be living between Aubin Grove area and Mandurah but not exactly sure where as yet, staying initially with eldest daughter in Attadale. Zoe who did you book your flights with? I very nearly went for the 25th but am at ladies day at the races on the 23rd so thought I would give myself an extra day!!
zoe1922
Hi Hopeful. We have booked with Singapore Airlines from Heathrow on 25th, will PM you a bit nearer the time and arrange to meet up. We are initially staying in the Joondalup area (short term holiday let) until we find a more permanent rental, but area no problem we can probably meet up in Perth somewhere... louisef
Hi Zoe & Hopeful - we might be out sooner than we thought after months of nothing happening with our sale it's all gone a bit manic and everybody wants to be in - in a week - we had said from the start we didn't mind when we moved but just needed 4 wks between exchange and completion but everyone seems to be ignoring that ! We are planning to get a holiday let to start within the Joondalup area too - I'm going to try and get flights and the rental booked this week - probably the minute I've heard we 've exchanged. It's good your daughter will have done her GCSEs Zoe , my daughter is a year 10 so is mid way through which isn't great timing but we didn't want to.risk holding off for another year and any of.the girls changing their minds and not wanting to go. Our 18 can't wait either - think things are tough for youngsters in the UK at the moment. How does your son feel about the move Hopeful - what year is he in ? It's lovely that you've all ready got your daughter over there, Will definitely keep you posted and let you know how it pans out this week. Thanks for listening/reading ! Hopeful
Hi Louise, great news about your house sale ours goes up this week hope we re as lucky with a quick sale and completion. Our son is in yr 9 will go into yr 10 in feb. He's really looking forward to going, we went for a month at Christmas and at that point he didn't mind either way what we did but when we came back he wanted to go straight away so we too are very keen to get there before he changes his mind as well. I think it helps that both his elder sisters are there now, out youngest went in March and eldest been there a year and a half and all three of them are really close so will be lovely to be near each other again. Louise/ Zoe have you looked at schools yet? Sorry if you ve mentioned this already I can't remember. Flights wise look at Etihad they ve some great offers on at the moment! no1mum
Hi guys, sounds like everything moving well. Stay in touch and we will arrange a get together on your arrival(s). Just a note, if you have recently sold your house in the UK bring mortgage statements with you to oz. We were thinking of renting when we got here so we did not bring the statements, however we were lucky enough to all find work in 3 weeks so we purchased, would have been easier with mortgage app here if we had thought to bring the uk statements etc. Also if you go into a short lease in Oz rather than holiday let the lease agreement puts you in good stead for any credit applications. We got a phone contract on day 2 of being in oz!! This was essential for keeping our 18 year old Grace happy lol. If anyone needs advice re : renting nor 30 day lease, I can let you know who we used, just pm me.
louisef
Hi Zoe - see you ve arrived : ) !!! Congrats - how are you getting on/how are the kids finding it ? We got here on the 1st July but that seems such a long time ago now - so I guess we must be feeling pretty much at home. Really enjoying it so far - and the weather can only get better ! Did you end up in the Joondalup area ? We are in Mullaloo. Hopefully get to see you at one of the meet ups and/or let me know if you fancy a catch up over a coffee when you get settled - I know its all very hectic for the first few weeks. Take care Louise x
zoe1922
Hi Louise, So sorry for the delay in replying. You are so right when you say its really hectic in the first few weeks! We are living in Iluka now in a rental and would love to meet up. Our son (18) is getting bit bored now and his mates back home aren't helping telling him to go back! Our daughter (16) started at Ocean Reef senior high last week. She did really well in her first week but now has 2 weeks holiday... Mullaloo isn't too far if you would like to meet up with the kids somewhere too? Really want our son to meet one or two people he can get to know. He has his own car so can travel Anyway let us know what you are up to and whether you would like to meet up. Zoe x
