kitty82
Hello everyone, I've joined the site to try and do some much needed research for our hopeful emigration to the Perth suburbs from the UK within the next 12-18 months. Looking for some pointers really. I've found a lot of pros and very few cons. So, if there is anyone from the UK; I would love to hear your stories about your experiences so far, good and bad. Bye for now Kate
ali
We moved 7 years ago and have felt very content and settled here, kids settled well into school, now have one at Uni and one in High School, the eldest says she's happy to have had her teenage years here. Perth is expensive. My recommendation is to think about coming out on a PR visa, the 457 visa is temporary and no guarantee that you will get PR (although many do), and if you have children the state have also introduced additional school fees for 457 visa holders. verystormy
Hi Kate Welcome to the forum. I am south of Perth and been here 6 years My advice is to concentrate on getting the visa first. There will be a lot of help available here for that.
kitty82
Hi Ali, My partner is looking at the 190 visa or the 186 at present, he just needs to get his qualifications verified by the Australian Authorities before he even considers his visa. They appear to have toughened up the visa process and are only looking for the creme de la creme. We have to have correspondence from realtors and educational establishments and all sorts of other correspondence to prove why You want to go to that part of that part of the country. Initially, we were looking at the 457 after I had completed my nurses degree, but that would take too long- well too long in the UK for his liking. I'm currently looking at the Secret Harbour area and Comet Bay College for my 14 yr old son. I am really pleased that You have settled down so well. May I ask what the cons are that you have found? Regards Kate

Regards Kate To be honest for us there are little niggly things which don't add up to being major cons and don't spoil the enjoyment of living here. WA is jokingly called 'wait awhile' and sometimes trades people give you a quote then seem to take an eternity to get started, I don't mind paying to see the Dr, but I pay then immediately get my medicare rebate put back into my account and I think "why not just charge me the gap" lol ... I'm others will have others they can add (it is really early here 5.30am ... so my brain isn't really thinking straight - I might think of more tonight lol). portlaunay
Hi Kate, welcome to PP. There are lots of stories on here, detailed accounts of people at every stage of the process. We've been here three years and for us there are no downsides apart from the kids missing family and friends etc. I think it's good to work out why you want to come, what is it you hope to get out of it and plan how you'll deal with setbacks, overcome barriers and cope with the emotional upheaval. This is a very challenging journey and it doesn't work for all.
verystormy
Hi Kate We were living in Leicester prior to our move, though I was born and grew up in Middlesbrough and my wife in Peru. The 190 would be a much better choice than the 457. What is your partners occupation? Also, sorry to pry, but just checking is your partner your sons biological parent? Only reason I ask is that permission is needed from biological parents for a child to move to Oz. As for pros and cons, all I can say is we are happy here. Probably one of the biggest is the weather - though you wouldnt think it today lol (it is winter now and grey and raining as I type) but winter is short and it won't be long till the sun is out.
