What is Albany like as a place to live?

A possible opportunity may arise in Albany. What is it like there? What would it be like to live there? What are the locallers and schools like? Property prices?

Not had time to research into it fully but would like to get some quick feedback if possible. Input from those in the know would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I've not been but I know a lot of people who grew up there and now live in Perth. As far as I know it's beautiful, quiet and cold.

Don't discount anywhere though until you've seen it for yourself, it may work very well for you. If the opportunity is there, why not take it, you don't have to stay?

You'll probably not get many replies from people who actually live there, as I'm not sure they have internet down there yet.

Pretty remote, awesome part of the country. If you can get a job there, and you don't mind country living, it's a nice place.

Bloody cold in winter though.

Albany is a beautiful city and a wonderful place to live. There are some fantastic schools and very good hospitals and health services. Lots of lovely beaches and parks, leisure facilities and an abundance of good shops. Housing is affordable though prices are on the rise due to a renewed popularity. Have a look at http://www.albany.asn.au and http://www.albanygateway.com.au.

I really like Albany. Beautiful historic buildings, stunning coastline and clean uncrowded beaches, nearby wineries and tourist attractions. The summer months are more bearable than in Perth and, coming from Scotland, I don't think that cold nights and blustery winds during the winter months would be enough to put me off. If you have a good employment opportunity in Albany, go for it. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I have lived in Perth and Albany and would recommend Albany over Perth any day. Its friendlier, far more scenic than flat Perth, and feels safer for the kids.

Welcome to PP Kazzie. Sounds lovely but we have settled in Perth now. Would like to go for a visit though. Have you lived there?
