hi there ladies and gents, I'm a 27 year old engineer from southwest England. Had my 189 visa granted a few weeks ago and am looking to move out in mid September. im going to be looking for a house share or similar somewhere in or around the area for the first few months to get my bearings. Any advice or help will be good. many thanks

Ahright I see, I have no job as of yet. Applied for about 15 but no luck, not heard back from about 11 of them. I'll head wherever the work is to be honest. Nope, I've never even been to oz before so it's going to be interesting :D

Any tips or ideas job wise? I'm a cnc programmer/setter and I also have many years of cad/cam experience. I registered with SEEK a few weeks back and most of the jobs look perfect but it seems the fact that I'm still in the UK is an issue for most if not all companies. I fully understand though as employing someone you've never met before is risky. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though!

Employing someone you've never met before isn't as risky as one that isn't even in the country...I think some people are lucky enough to find work whilst still in the UK but they tend to be in occupations where there is no one in Perth with the relevant skills who can fill the vacancy. I don't think that's the case with engineering now and you really need to be there. My hubby has had a lot more interest from agencies and employers since arriving in Perth.

yes that's true. ill just have to wait until I get there and start applying then again. I'm guessing there's job agencies I can register with when I arrive? I'm looking at staying in a hotel for my first week. Hopefully from then on ill be able to find some accommodation on gumtree or similar although ive heard its hard sometimes with a lack of references? im guessing they will just get you to pay a few months upfront?
