New arrivals :)

We arrived in Saturday and have had a busy week so far.

I must admit when when we arrived in the darkness on Saturday night I felt overwhelmed and very far from home. It was a very strange feeling that I wasn't expecting at all. Thankfully that seemed to pass after a couple of days and I'm now loving exploring Perth.

We had a short term rental booked in Carramar which I've found to be a lovely suburb but far too far out for me. Before coming I had my sights set on Duncraig/Carine as areas to live but after seeing them for myself I was a little disappointed with them. There weren't any houses we liked up for rent in either of them and driving about I felt parts of the suburb were quite unkempt. Anyway we have ended up applying for a house in Hillarys which we love, a little more expensive than I'd have liked but fully furnished so we'll save on buying furniture.

So far been to Kings park and Caversham wildlife park and found both to be excellent.

Next step is registering our eldest with school, Hillarys Primary, she'll be in pre primary year incase there is anyone out there who has kids in the same year.

Hubby has worked offshore in perth for a while so we're lucky there is no pressure to look for work , going to start thinking about looking for work for me soonish, enjoying a little holiday first.

Sorry if I've bored everyone!

xx

Great to hear your update Susan. You seem to be sorting everything out incredibly fast!

We haven't sorted any of the important things tho! Still no Medicare and i don't have a bank account or tax file no yet. I seem to have my priorities upside down! But we loved the house and so had to go for it.

I'm an accountant same as you guys Lou. How are you finding the job market? I was a finance manager for a manufacturer back in the uk. Hoping to get something similar here.xx

Hubby's started looking, I won't be in the immediate future and when I do I'm hoping to work for myself. He's had a video interview and has been meeting with agents this week. Everyone's been extremely positive but their organisational skills in scheduling in house appointments haven't been great! I hope they're a lot better organised at helping him get a job!!

Medicare is quite quick to sort out. Just go with your visa grant and passports to the local Medicare Centre. TFN can be done online.

G'day Susan. Glad everything is going well. Check out the mandurah meet coming up.

Hi VS,

i take it by your post, you live in or near Mandurah? I only ask as it is on our short list of suburbs to visit when we arrive. It looks fantastic with it being surrounded by water and wildlife plus a quieter lifestyle. My question is, what's the commute like when going into the CBD? I know that it takes about 50 mins on the train but just wondered if it was a nice journey or horrendous? Sorry if this doesn't concern you but thought you might be able to she'd some light.

When we arrive (8 July - Very excited by the way) we are staying up in quinns rocks right on the beach for 6 weeks and only chose up there as we have some friends in butler so thought it would be handy to have a friendly face near by for the first few weeks until we are up on our own two feet, so to speak.

Anyway I've probably bored the socks off everyone reading this so will wait for any replies. Lol

Hi Dartmoor.

Yes, I live in mandurah and have for the last 6 years.

It is a stunning place and as you point out, it is literally surrounded by water - peel to the east and ocean to the west. As a result, most people are very geared to the water - either involved with things on the beach, or boating or fishing and things. I am opposite the beach and have just come back from walking the dog there.

I used to travel to Perth for work every day and still do odd days. It is fine. I get the morning paper and because mandurah is the end of the line, it isn't too busy when I get on. By the time I have read the paper I am arriving into Perth. Coming back, the train is very busy, but you soon learn the tricks of how to get a seat such as knowing where on the platform to stand to be at the doors.

I couldn't now imagine living anywhere else. Mandurah has everything we need and if we want to go into Perth for something such as a night out, then it's only a train ride away. We also love been close to Margaret river and things like the state forest at Dwellingup.
