Martins
Hi everyone! I'm heading to perth in September with my family as permanent residents. I am a qualified primary teacher but realise the job situation is rather grim ? however, I am qualified to work as a catholic teacher and wondered if anyone knows if this increases my chances? Our arrival in September was in the hope that I am there for jobs being advertised for 2015. I'm not holding out too much hope at the moment and will be relying on my husband on getting something (he is a tiler) . Has anyone struggled to get something and moved to a different career field? If so what? I really don't want to do anything else but we need to get there! Could be waiting here forever for a job to come up, hoping being in the country will help ? any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. We have not made any decisions on areas etc as this will all be based on job situation. thanks
Scot01
All jobs in Catholic schools are advertised on the Catholic education web site. There is a separate Education dept for Catholic schools and all Catholic schools are private fee paying. Sometimes jobs are advertised in the West Australian paper on a Saturday but web site is best. Although you say you are qualified to teach in a catholic school it may be an idea to do some accreditation courses through the CE office while you're waiting to get a job, they are run all the time. Talk to someone at the Cat educ office about what would be useful. I am a non Catholic but got work in a Catholic school and had to do some induction days at the CEO. Martins
Thanks for your message. Basically, to teach in a catholic here you must have catholic accreditation. I went to a catholic uni where this was part of the course (had to seek approval from diocese, re exams and be assessed teaching re) so I have a separate qualification/certificate. Would be happy to do anything extra that may help. I am aware of the CEO website and I'm constantly checking. There have been a couple of posts for 2015 already but doubt I have any sort of chance until I'm there. how long have you been there and how are you finding the job situation now? thanks
Scot01
Been here 17 years and I'm an educational psychologist, worked for the CEO visiting many Catholic and independent schools - they have a separate psych service. Now lecturing at UWA and Curtin Uni. Can't tell you job situation except from news reports, grim!
