Hi everyone, just thought I'd say hi as I'll be stalking all your posts for the next few months

We are currently having our 457 visas processed after hubby applied for a job. He's heading over in about 6wks. Me & kids following early Dec.

We were there on hols (pre-kids) 10yrs ago & loved it. Got close friends in the northern suburbs. We're expecting to probably settle around the Carramar area but who knows. I've also previously been to Sydney, Melbourne & a very rainy Cairns before so I think I know what to expect but it's very different living there isn't it.

Am absolutely terrified of spiders (took me 1000s of ££ s of hypnotherapy just to type that!), so that's obviously a massive concern. No reassuring pictures pls or I'll no doubt inadvertently lash my phone 50ft in the air.:arghh:

Looking forward to getting to know you all x

Welcome Liverpool lass

I have never known a scouse bird scared of anything!

PMSL 7cdb

Thanks everyone for your lovely messages. Travelchic I work in Speke & often pass your chemical town on the way over the bridge to our caravan in Wales.

I'll have to try and read up on you all & your situations now, so I'm not asking you all to repeat yourselves. x

Ha ha, cheers Travelchic, I like your description of Widnes and Runcorn Bridge (apparently closed today due to a major collision! The bridge, not Widnes ;-) ). My first job was in Widnes, I think I can still smell the place from here! (Those who have been to Widnes will understand what I mean!)

Look forward to meeting you all at some point, as we are missing the local wit a wee bit now!

Pete.

Blinkin Runcorn Bridge, I'll second that good enough reason to be emigrating haha! I was ranting the other day, its time to get to Perth, while I was stuck on the bridge will hate it even more when we have to pay to cross . Travel Chic were over the water in not so sunny Runcorn, love hearing how someone local is getting on, Good Luck not long for you now, we're Hope to be in Perth by the end of this year fingers crossed, Hello to Liverpool lass.

OMG that bridge has drove me mad this week. They've closed the widnes turn off for a week and they're diverting traffic through ditton. RIGHT PAST MY HOUSE. On the week that i am moving out of my house in WIDNES and into my sisters house in RUNCORN. Its gonna be the death of me.

That's what worries me Pete, not having the constant banter. Have lived in a few different places before and have always missed the natural humour & come back. There's supposed to be 100,000 scousers in Perth though, so shouldn't be too hard to find some sarky git

Hey liverpoollass14, my hubby, 2 daughters & I are hoping to emigrate to Perth early next year but have never been before, it would obviously be better to try it beforehand but that just wouldn't be possible due to the cost etc. I'm not really worried that we won't like life in oz because I'm sure we'll love the lifestyle but like you I have a terrible phobia of spiders and I just don't know if I am kidding myself that I could live in a country where the spiders are 3 times the size of the ones in the uk and more importantly can kill you... eek!! Would you say hypnotherapy has helped??

Hi Nikki, I totally know where you're coming from on this one. Yes it did help a bit but I'm not very easy to hypnotise apparently. At the time when I rang to make my first appt I couldn't even tell her what it was for without sobbing hysterically down the phone. I didn't have that many sessions tbh, maybe 6 but then I was able to buy a Spiderman toy for my son for xmas. That was a big deal believe me.

I've been to Aus twice and probably spent about 6 wks there in total. I've got to say I was very surprised, it wasn't like I'd expected/dreaded. I saw one relatively normal small-ish one on each trip & that was it.

I'm going to buy the Paul McKenna download off his site aswell, I think that's about £30. And anything else I can find!

How come you've decided to go over there then and how old are your daughters? Are they looking forward to it?

Coming to Oz helped me a lot. We stayed in Port Douglas and the hotel corridors were outside and crawling with giant bugs. I just had to concentrate on regulating my breathing and walk straight on past them otherwise is have been stuck in my room all day and all evening! After that in not so bad although I think I would still have an anxiety attack and run a mile if I saw a huge spider!

Thanx for ur reply. Good for u for making such progress. I've heard mixed reports about hypnotherapy, not sure yet if I'm gonna try it.... Would b interested to find out if the book's any good tho. My mum who was a chain smoker finally gave up smoking after 30+ years after reading a book about quitting - she said it was like a switch in her head being turned on.

To some people it may sound pathetic having a fear of spiders but if ur like me ul understand it takes over ur life and it is just such a worry to think of uprooting my family to move to the other side of the world to then discover I can't settle because of the spiders!!

My husband works for police scotland over here & has applied to Western Australia police, had exam last thurs so just waiting on the results in 2 weeks time. We're just fed up with wet/dull/boring life in the uk & want to seek a better sunnier life for us all as a family. Our girls r 7 & 4 so at a good age too. We've included the girls in the conversations about emigrating to oz & they seem really excited about it.

What about u?

xnx

Hi Nikki I think it can depend on how good the hypnotherapist is & how much u want it to work. It's good to know I'm not the only one as bad though. Good luck for hubby! My husband's friend is in Perth at mo having quit the police here to go there with his gf. We thought he'd transferred to WA police but apparently not. My daughter's also 4, she talks about going to Aus but not sure how much she understands. My son's 9 & looking forward to it, tho he's got a great life & friends here. He thinks we're only going for a year tho. Who knows, we might be! ;-) x

Yeah probably worth a try.... Let me know if u get the book & if u think its any good. Seems to b alot of uk cops gettin scunnered here & jumpin ship for life in oz. I think years ago u could transfer but now its a case of re-applyin & goin thru the whole process including police academy - which its a thot but heyho if its what it takes.... What does ur hubby do? What area of Perth r u goin to? I'm sure once ur wee boy gets there & gets a taste of ozzie life he'll not want to return. My 4 year old is the same, she just goes along with her older sister but I really don't think she understands - bless lol!! The eldest, all she's interested in is a house with a balcony & pool - high expectations - no pressure there then eh? lol!! Where in uk r u? xnx
