wee_me
Hi Does anyone live in Rivervale or Burswood? I have read that Rivervale has quite a lot of social housing but not sure if that means there are certain areas or streets I should avoid. I have nothing against social tenants I just don't want to be stuck next to the ones that gives the social tenants a bad rep!! Thanks
verystormy
To be honest, I would avoid both. While Burswood itself can be ok, the areas around can have a lot of crime which encroaches into it. There is often some serious crime around the train station there - muggings / assaults.
Akasully2
We rented an apartment in Rivervale for the first week of being here because our longer term holiday let was unavailable. It is close to the airport and the city, so convenient. However, I wouldn't want to live there. Very urban and built up although the river runs behind the properties up there. We had views of it from our balcony. Main roads, industrial units, traffic lights, noise and high rise living. Saying that though, we visited the local shopping centre a few miles away in Belmont (I think it was called that, started with a B) and it was nice. Bibbs
Yes, Belmont is the local shopping area. Burswood in nice, but very apartment living. The main crime stats came from the Eve nightclub with people getting into trouble. The train station is bad, but not overly so. I rented there for 18 months. The apartments themselves are very secure. Rivervale is more houses (compared to Burswood) but for me it felt a bit soulless. Now the highway has been done, traffic had been reduced. Social housing is an issue there. That and bodies being dumped in the Motels. http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/man-charged-over-motel-car-park-death-20110531-1fdkx.html But it's a good location for getting into the city, and prices will head up soon as it's one of the cheapest places near the city. Vic park is on the door step, and that's full of restaurants and bars.
wee_me
Hi thanks for replies We went and and viewed a house in rivervale and the area was quite poor- windows smashed and boarded up and really poor looking kids running about playing in the street. So rivervale is not for us! We are looking to buy a unit or townhouse in/near the city with train links and near the river (us and loads of other people). Hopefully we'll find something in the coming months.
Bibbs
Jump over the river. Ascott is expensive, but then look at Maylands, and the areas around the train lines. Try and get a block or two away from the station so you can't hear the crossing chimes, but are still close enough to walk. EDIT :- Or look at Como / South Perth / Applecross - more buses than trains though. Or Leederville, Mt Hawthorn, North Perth - but then you miss the river.
